Weiss the new star but Miller still sparkles for Rangers
Tricky first half, comfortable second for the champions

Vladimir Weiss will inevitably grab the headlines and spotlight from many Rangers fans after an exciting debut but hat-trick hero Kenny Miller really has to take the plaudits after an engaging match at Easter Road.
The first half was petering out before a flurry of excitement saw two red cards and further accusations of cheating by Alan McGregor but when the space opened up, Rangers were the only team who looked capable of taking advantage of it.
We haven’t really saw the incidents in full enough….so we’ll wait until a bit later before thinking about the behaviour of Lafferty, McBride and McGregor. That can come later on but the real footballing talking points come from the second half when Rangers stepped up a gear or two.
Even if you stand by the opinion that Rangers are unexciting and unadventurous (which is pretty silly to be honest), you have to surely agree they are a smart team that knows how to move the ball and take advantage of opponent’s weaknesses. Last seasons League Cup final against St Mirren was a perfect example of this and the same can be said for the second half against Hibs.
James Beattie may not have broken his Rangers scoring duck but his alertness in the box provided Kenny Miller with a gilt-edged chance to blast Rangers into the lead, which the Scottish internationalist duly took.
Miller may have had an easy second goal as well but this was the one that really whet the Rangers fans appetite for the season ahead. The fact that Vladimir Weiss apparently snubbed Celtic makes him a hero for many Rangers fans but the awareness shown by the youngsters to get his head up and play in Miller bodes very well.
From here on, Hibs were done and Rangers knew it, keeping them at bay whilst looking to hit on the break if possible. Late on in injury time, Steven Davis played in Miller and the striker, full of confidence, stuck the ball in the far corner to complete his hat-trick and top off an excellent second half performance by the SPL champions.
The suspension for Kyle Lafferty is the sort of thing that boss Walter Smith was trying to avoid but the emergence of Vladimir Weiss and a high level of confidence should see Rangers carry on with little difficulty or problems.
Rangers fans, delighted with the days showing?

A absolutely hate diving, mr mrgregor u are a class act why do something so idiotic hang ur head in shame and lafferty something tells me he has too much connection with the being a rangers fan and n.irish player to ever learn he always builds a rod for his own back , there is a player in there for that I’m sure but I think now is the time to move to a club with a clean slate his stupidity will always come back to haunt him, on the plus side not the best performance today but a 3.0 victory thatl do for me weiss was an utter joy to watch he will be a magnificent signing if he plays anything like he did today ever time he got a touch we were on the edge ov our seats a fantastic debut ! And still jelavic to come in happy days !

For those that never seen the Alan McGregor Derek Riordan incident at Easter Road on Sunday here’s a small video.
With Aston Villa falling apart today at Newcastle what’s the thoughts on Villa going out of the Champions League on Thursday night to Rapid Vienna. Will Rangers still want to buy Jelavic if he’s cup tied for the group stages of the Champions League or will Rangers use the work permit delays as a smoke screen to get out of the deal.
Have Rangers’ started the work permit procedure yet?
have you got a link to a certain manager doing far worse at inverness with jaunjo lol ffs
jazrfc, how long back was the Jaunjo incident? Why do you always point at another incident when one of your players or fans get caught doing something stupid.
This is a thread about today’s game, that’s why I thought it was relevant to show the incident that most football fans are talking about today and tomorrow.
2 games into the league and Rangers (no surprise) are already cheating their way to victory. McGregor and Laugh-erty are pure scum. Cheats. What Rangers lack in skill, technique and intelligence they ‘make up for’ by cheating and dirty play. I’m looking forward to watching some true Champions League class teams humiliate them while Celtic laughs its arse off! HAIL HAIL!
just to say not just mcgregor is a cheat wee lennons been there . micky dee put the glue down wee man yer signing on the morra
petrov , mcgeady , nakamura , maloney etc would give any ov the Olympic diving team a run for their money ! An to say we cheated or way to victory are u having a laugh pal get your green tints off not one ov the goals had anything wrong with them ? The old ones ate the best so am gony say atleast we are there to be humiliated and have got a fair amount ov money to deal with the suposid humiliation and if we do then itl not be half as humiliating as not making it after getting PUMPED off braga yes braga not a suposid champions league class team ! The papers read Celtic FAIL ! FAIL !
Actually jaz the game was @ pitoddrie do your reasearch before making statements tut tut.
Glyn your surely dont read the papers you cant be that stupid ???????????
An excellent win at a tough venue, although it has been a happy hunting ground recently for Rangers, one thumping win in December and then returning in May to clinch the world record 53rd Championship.
As for the game itself, very poor first half with both teams struggling to make any impact in the final third. The Mcgregor incident with Riordan, well I think he’s due an apology to the Rangers fans for acting like that, suppose he had the sense to very quickly realise that he had made a james hunt of himself and didn’t carry on with the sore face part. The game got very niggly after that and then we had the Lafferty and McBride incident. Quite frankly the ref called it wrong, both players deserved a yellow card and that would have been suffice. You could see Walter Smith and John Hughes both agreeing on the sidelines that it was a poor decision. My pal said to me at the time that Hibs would miss McBride more than we would miss Lafferty and he was proved correct. Rangers stepped up a gear in the second half but the game was still on a knife edge and I said however scored first would win, thankfully it was Rangers who scored that crucial goal and the-introduction of Weiss was significant, early signs are positive and he could become a real star this season. Not since Brian Laudrup graced the blue jersey have I seen a player so direct and pacey and with crucially the end product to back it up. Laffertys place was already in danger to Weiss, it might be a long time before we see him in the team again.
Now looking ahead to seeing the new guy, Jelavic and what he can offer, good start to the season and already it looks like being a real battle between the big two for the prize of Championees 2010/11
Dub
You arent insuating that Rangers do not intend sgning Jelavic surely, I think your grasping at straws there to be honest, you or I dont know if the work permit aplication is in yet or not, I would suggest neither of us know how the process works yet you are questioning it?
re McGregor, an absolute disgrace, simple as that, great keeper total clown of a man, if you can call him that.
Actually think Lafferty went cos hes Lafferty to be honest, BUT would say that he is now a total liability, easy to wind up by opposing fans and players, not saying this is the case here, but feel now it would be far better to try to move him on, cut our losses and move on
Dont think McBride should have gone
One pen, one red card against us in 2 games, just imagine if this had happened to the smaller Glasgow club, will be forgotten about though when they start struggling and have to blame refs
Remember the work permit that was given to one of Celtic’s far east signings, maybe Koki Mizuno. He failed to meet the standard criteria but was given the all clear by a panel that consisted of Gerry Collins, Pat Nevin and I think Jim Duffy.
Quite rightly so.
Scooter, here’s some info on the UK Work Permits for footballers.
The Scottish FA’s rules on work permit endorsements follow the same guidelines as previously outlined by the Home Office. For the SFA to give their approval, the player in question must have played 75 per cent of his nation’s competitive games – excluding friendlies – in the last two years.
The appeals process
If an application is rejected, a club can then appeal to the governing body. An appeals panel will ultimately weigh up whether or not the player is, in their view, an internationally established player and whether another professional within the UK could not perform a similar role.
That appeals panel typically sits within three to five working days of an appeal submission and is made up of football experts, made up typically of former professionals. Officials from the league, the FA and the player’s union also sit on the panel to argue the case for the player being granted an endorsement.
In Scotland, experts who have sat on the decision panel previously include former player-turned-pundit Pat Nevin, one-time Motherwell boss Willie McLean – brother of Tommy and Jim – and former Hibernian and Liverpool midfielder Peter Cormack.
Looks like Jelavic would have to go to appeal because he has only played 1 international game that wasn’t a friendly.

If I was a betting man I would suggest he gets a WP quite easily, surely we should encourage players of this talent to come here over some others who currently ply their trade in the SPL
Maybe I should sit on the panel
Sounds like a good gig to me scooter wonder how much money is given for this work??????????
DannyBhoy
All I intend doing is turning up, saying yes, a nice lunch will be payment enough!
Anybody got a clue what this banner is about?
Oh dont be daft scooter screw them for ever penny!!!!!!!!!
Nothing coming up Dub??
Try it now Quags
1950′s Cop TV Series ” Dial 999″ Starring Robert Beatty.
Kid’s street Rhyme ( skipping ropes etc) was ” Dial 999, Dial 999, Rober Beatty stole a Sweetie, Dial 999.” (Knees up mother Brown tune)
Look’s like a play on an old TV Series, replaced the Robert with a James.
Quags, That is really poor, it’s not the most imaginative of banners is it.
Think it’s specific to a supporters bus and a song that’s frequently sung about a member of that bus. Probably a joke amongst them.
