Weirs Way is to stay with Rangers
Player gives Rangers first refusal

Although the column inches have been racking up for Rangers in the past few days, actual news has been thin on the ground. The different parties hoping to take control of the Ibrox club are still jockeying for position and the respective media have been backing their preferred bidder.
Unlike the Daily Record or the Evening Times, we haven’t got a favourite potential buyer for the club and don’t have any angle to spin the story. So we’ll stick with the thing we allegedly know, which means talking about the one football story of the day for Rangers.
Until the ownership of Rangers is completely settled, it will be unlikely that too many contract deals will be finalised but club captain Davie Weir has announced he would be very happy to remain with the Scottish champions.
Weir may be 40 years old but his performances this season have shown him to be comparable to any other defender in the SPL. In fact, no other defender in the SPL picked up the writer’s player of the year award so Weir can say he is more than deserving of another contract at Ibrox.
Although there is an obvious clamour for news about the future, Weir didn’t seem to be too bothered by the speculation. After all, as the captain said, it didn’t prevent Rangers from picking up two trophies in the season just completed so there is no reason why the same can’t happen again next season.
That said, these are worrying times for Rangers but if Davie Weir gets his way, there will be a familiar face to lead the campaign for 2010/11.

Shame, his POTY award was a sympathetic one because that season past was meant to be his last, he has been on his last legs for over 2 years now, understandibly of course given his age, “apparantly” cruising through SPL games although i have to disagree, he is the reason our team plays so deep, he is the reason our defense has ben ripped apart in Europe in the last 2 years and the reason why our defense is under so much pressure game after game, poor Dave has also been tore apart on several occassions in the SPL by mediocre opposition strikers, the big mans done.
In saying that, he has been a tremendous signing by Smith, and is the only true leader and captain within our dressing room, he should have been made captain the day he signed but the crab was still here so that wasnt going to happen. For a free transfer, he is probably the best signing ever made by not just Walter, but Rangers, the big mans been a class act especially off the field, but in the last year and a half, hes been poor by his own high standards, he gets caught out far too many times and so easily, any donut with pace will roast him and hes stopped jumping high enough to win 50/50′s now too, he may read the game well but all too often he is caught out on the deck and in the air.
Dont spoil your excellent reputation at Rangers Dave, retire on a high, next year is going to be very very hard for the club and i fear if we dont retain our title, you will be one of the main reasons.
His comments at the POTY dance, stating McCulloch should be the next Rangers captain made me sick, a horrible suggestion and a ridiculous thing to say.
I do not want to say i told you so after next season. The writings on the wall.
Thanks for the memories Dave and good luck in coaching.
Bougherra and Webster together will be sensational.
PS Bain should be sacked for even contemplating accepting 5million for Bougherra, that was embarassing!
Are you allowed home at weekends James?
Your comments are full of contradictions and quite frankly embarrassing coming from a Rangers supporter.
