Would Turkey tempt Kris Boyd?

by WeKnowSFA

Will Boyd be stuffing the goals in abroad?

In December, it is fair enough to say that Kris Boyd will have a lot on his plate and turkey will be at the front of his thoughts. Food fans love Christmas and the Rangers striker is a well known lover of his grub.

This season though, thoughts of Turkey may drift into January and for once it is not about the leftovers that make up the sandwiches and curries of the early part of New Year. Boyd’s resolve may once again be tested by a Turkish bid.

Rijkaard looks to Boyd

Boyd has been linked to a move to Turkey a number of times in the past couple of years and this time, Galatasaray are the club associated with an interest. The former Barcelona manager is in charge and the potentially cut-price nature of a deal could make this very good business indeed.

The thing is though, does Boyd want to leave? In short, NO but there are a number of reasons for this:

Boyd is at the club he supports and loves
Boyd has the potential to set a goal-scoring record in the SPL that will never be broken
Boyd appears to be the type of person who would find it difficult to settle abroad
Rangers fans accept Boyd’s limitations and accentuate his positives, other fans may be less willing

If the reports are true, Boyd could see his wages treble to around £36,000 per week. This is said to be a lot less than the £45,000 a week that was allegedly on the table when clubs were bidding on him last season but is still a large chunk of money.

Will a bidding war start?

News that the Turkish side are in for the striker may alert other clubs to his availability, with ex-boss Alex McLeish possibly reigniting his interest. McLeish will have money to spend in January but the former Killie hitman could be a budget buy that will strengthen Birmingham’s chances of staying up.

For all the speculation, it is hard to picture Boyd leaving in January. The striker has too much to keep him in the West of Scotland and waiting until the summer will leave him all the options. The forward may be waiting to see if a change at the helm happens at Ibrox, which may allow him to earn a new contract on reasonable terms.

Some people don’t striker you as being able to move abroad and integrate with other cultures and people. Kris Boyd is definitely one of them. Then again, when you are as feted in your own backyard, is there any reason to look to broaden your horizons or bank balance?

Could Rangers survive without Boyd’s goals?
