Rangers boss Walter Smith does not want to lose the player and says the decision, if any, will be the hitman’s choice.

The line from the Rangers board is that they do not need to sell in January, that’s not to say they won’t but not needing to sell should leave the decision within the club’s hands.

There has been nothing to suggest the player wishes to move from Ibrox.

And yet, the speculation surrounding the future of Kris Boyd just won’t go away.

Being out of contract in the summer will invariably make a player of interest to many clubs and Boyd has been scoring for fun. It is therefore unsurprising to see the SPL top goal-scorer on the shopping list of so many clubs.

The latest club to be credited with an interest are Sochaux.

The French club have an obvious need for a striker given that their main forward, Charlie Davies has been unavailable since October. Any club with a need for goals, and what club doesn’t have a need for goals, should at least have a passing interest in the striker.

As well as the French interest, Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Hull City are said to be monitoring the situation. Birmingham City tried to sign the striker last January and will have cash to spend in January. There have also been suggestions of interest in the player from Turkey and Germany.

There is no doubt, Boyd is in demand.

However, Boyd was in no rush to leave Ibrox in January 2009, so why should there be much of a difference in January 2010?

With the SPL title-race being close again, the chance of a second title for Boyd with his favourite club could be a bigger lure than any recession busting wage increase he would get from moving.

There is also the relentless pursuit of Henrik Larsson’s SPL goal tally, which just adds up to Boyd staying until at least the summer.

The future of Kris Boyd does not only just concern the player and his club, it could sway the SPL title race.

Rangers fans, should Boyd get a new contract?
Things had been a little bit quiet but three home wins have seen everyone’s favourite Hermit since Peter Noone return to the spotlight. Aside from telling the world how great he is on Twitter, Gary Caldwell has been staying out of the media spotlight of late.

Some would say it was about time he kept himself to himself as his form has been questionable at best but the past few games has shown the better side of Gary Caldwell.

Clean sheets at the back and devastatingly effective long passes have been noticeable from Heid but he has a long way to go to redeem himself in the eyes of the fans.

Which is why some will be annoyed that he has been shoved in front of the journalists once again.

“We are now getting the chance to do that and over the past week the performances and results have been great.”

“That’s us just won three games in a week and I am amazed at the change of atmosphere in the changing room.”

“When you go on a run like that it really does give you confidence and the whole club is buzzing.”

“When you go on a run like that”???

Three games?? After two away games in the league where Celtic failed to win? Just before they face trips to Fir Park and Tynecastle, where Celtic will be stretched to their limit?

It is not unfeasible that Celtic could be coming out a 6 game league run with only two wins and then Caldwell will start to look rather silly.

You have to hope that Caldwell has an agent acting on his behalf when his future gets sorted out in the next few months because he can’t be trusted to open his mouth!

If Celtic can take 6 points from their next two matches, their fans will start to believe a corner has been turned and will overlook some of Gary’s grandiose comments. If they slip up on the road again, some will be wanting Caldwell’s head on a platter.

Celtic fans, do you think the team has turned the corner?
