The Sun unites Celtic and Rangers fans
Cracking story in a slow news week
You may have noticed things being a bit quiet at WeKnowSFA in the past week.
We’re still here but there hasn’t been much major news and the ins and outs of players can wait until the season gets ready to roll. We appreciate some big holes have appeared in the squads at Hamilton, Hearts and Hibs and there are concerns about other clubs but that can wait until the build-up until next season.
Give us all some time to recharge our batteries and look forward to the World Cup.
Not The Sun though, they’ve managed to make a football story the front page article with their Celtic in for Kris Boyd story.
We’re sure (we hope) that no paper would just print absolute lies but there is obviously some cuteness going on. We know it, we’ll occasionally stick on a sensational eye-catching headline but we’d never make stuff up. Sure, our opinions may be skewed and questionable but they’re not bare-faced lies.
So, is there much chance that Kris Boyd will be a Celtic player next season?
We’ll be dating Sienna Miller first.
Is it likely Kris Boyd will be leaving Rangers?
It’s not definite but you can see it occurring.
Would Celtic be interested in signing a striker with a proven pedigree at their level and who would be comfortable playing in the league?
You would have to say yes.
On that basis alone, it’s not unreasonable but when you consider everything else, it becomes complete bunkum…to use a term not used in Scottish football as much as it used to be.
Kris Boyd has constantly trumpeted his Rangers supporting background and that’s not something you take lightly. By all means you may have to leave the club but you don’t consider leaving them for their bitter rivals…not when there are other options on the table which are as financially lucrative.
Someone somewhere is at the mischief making, we’re just not sure who?
Perhaps it’s the Sun and they can consider it a job well done with the extra sales and increased attention they’ll get today.
Perhaps its Celtic in an attempt to undermine Rangers and wind them up over their financial status.
Perhaps it is Boyd and his agent in an attempt to make it clear the sort of wage the player is after and to hurry up the process of getting a contract from Rangers or elsewhere.
Perhaps it’s from Rangers so their fans can launch another “he said no thanks” charade when one of their players decides his future doesn’t lie at Celtic Park.
Who knows? Not us!
Anyone got any crazier theories behind the story?

Yep, bunkum AND balderdash.
If this did happen, can you imagine the stramash and brouhaha(sp?) that would ensue? There’s 2 more words we need to use more often!
In one way, it would be funny if it did happen in order to sit back and watch some people explode but in a more real sense, nah, probably best not to consider it.
Michael Stewart should return to Hibs though, that would be funny.
And Dundee United to sign Lee Griffiths if only to read some fantastic updates on his REAL blog!
Them aside, any other SPL transfers that you think could cause a real brouhaha, stramash or just cause one almighty WOOOOOOFFFFFFTTTTT?!?!?
If you know yer history some people will know that i said in December last year Boyd was going to Celtic, i said Liewell would offer him terms as hes on a bosman. I was obviously ridiculed but im not daft, Liewell would not be doing his job if he didnt try and sign Boyd.
At Rangers with no service and anti-football the big man was hopeless and no use in big games but at Celtic with wingers galore creating chances and attacking football he would be a totally different player.
Just more evidence for me that Murray, Bain, Smith and Mccoist should ALL be hounded out of Ibrox(not just for this mess but for some shocking defeats, european embarassments and off the field mismanagements), they are a disgrace to our club, success or not, title or not, my club is a shambles. This sort fo crap is just typical of Smiths era under Murray, we’re a joke.
Some people just wont take it seriously, well i will be telling them, i told you so. I seen this coming.
with wingers galore jamesy bhoy the mighty robbie keanne won hee haw . theres as much chance boyd joining celtic as you being a bluenose.
James, stop fiddling with yer crystyal baws and put them back in the cupboard:-

It was fun bit of nonsense for the couple of hours it lasted.
We should use the money to try and sign Steve Davis! That would also raise a bit of a WOOOOOFT!
Other transfers to cause a brouhaha? Steven Pressley to become Killie’s next manager.
Graeme Spiers to be new chief ed of Rangers News.
Leckie, Traynor, Jackson, Broadfoot, McInness, Young, King (I could go on forever) to join Kerrydale Street website.
Why not? If the scum can publish that runny keech today then surely anyone can make up their own streams of pee woth no basis in truth whatsoever.
No wonder the daily printed word is enduring a slow, tormented death rattle right now. More power to sites like this!
King will have lost all his credibility with this latest story …. oh wait, what credibility!!
If this is Lawell’s way of trying to push up season ticket sales at Parkhead, well I think he might be well versed in trying something different. Will be interesting to see if he denies it though. Imagine though if Boyd did sign and followed his lead by donating his signing on fee to the club that gave him the stage to display his talents, £1M to Rangers? Could be doing with it right enough!
As for Boyd, he will end up at Newcastle, Blackpool or West Brom. Take home his £25K per week while scoring a few goals at home, most of them probably when the team he selects get’s relegated to the Championship.
I’m more interested in who will take Gordon Smiths job at the SFA!!
Here’s my shortlist-
Wattie
Graham Souness
Andy Goram
Snatcho Novo
Ian Durrant
John Greig
Mark Hately
Jim Traynor
Daryl Broadfoot
Ian Ferguson
Wattie (again!)
Andy Cameron
Marty Pellow
Paul Gascoin
Jeff Winters
It’ll be interesting to see which one they pick!!
Sorry I forgot to mention Tam Cowan, surely over qualified for the job? He makes “catholics are the enemy” sound like a human rights law!!
It’s got to be Dick Campbell surely Max?
He would have to improve massively on his mic technique for the Hampden Karaoke nights first, but for official functions like, say, being part of the official SFA party if rangers were playing behind closed doors in the San Siro or something, say against Inter or something absurd like that, I’m sure he would fit right in!!
We do our best
Cheers BSW, again, we do our best. As we said in the article, we’re not averse to taking some cheeky flyers and being a bit “wide” with some headlines but this story was above and beyond.
Perhaps Mr King just fancies a wee vacation…you’d like to think he rolled in drunk and decided, this will be a right laugh, lets get this submitted.
And then this morning as his hangover was throbbing, the constant beep beep beep of texts and emails on his Blackberry made him realise just what he did last night….
Could this be the very final ‘jumping the shark’ moment for the printed sports meeja in Scotland?
Fingers, legs, eyes and wires crossed!

Aaayyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!
Nice one Dubs!
So Iain King is insistent now that celtic tried to SIGN Boyd in January, but Mowbray (really miss this fella) knocked it back because he didn’t rate him!
Now Lawell has tried again for his next manager, unlikely to be Lennon now that Walter has decided to stay another year, will be good to hear Boyd’s version of the events.
Lawells attempts at trying a MOJO on Rangers appear to be rather misguided and foolish, much like the last two seasons at Parkhead!!
How is it unlikely to be Lennon now that Smith is in charge for another year?
Don’t really see it having any impact to be honest – and if anything, the fact that Smith remains in charge may mean there is a greater need to go for a manager with spirit and verve to combat the qualities that Smith instills to his team.
Maybe not…but you cant draw what Celtic’s next move is purely because of what Rangers have signed up for.
Walters wealth of experience versus Lennons wealth of inexperience.
I hope ‘Lenny’ get’s the job.
I presume in the same way you hope super Sally gets the Gers job in a year or so?
McCoists appointment in waiting is slightly different, given that he will have served 4 years under the guidance of Walter Smith. That said it will be a gamble, but let’s be honest here. who really wants the job of an old firm manager these days? Look at the number of coaches who have turned down the Celtic job. Moyes, Coyle, Martinez and if your to believe recent reports, Avram Grant as well. That’s not be gloating either, Rangers would be in the exact same position if it wasn’t for Smith.
It’s not that no-one wants the job. The guys you listed were all in secure EPL jobs and still are. You could look at it as a question of why leave the EPL for the SPhell?
Nothing has changed in that sense really. When did Celtic or Rangers ever attract top managers from down south. I know we took Martin O’Neill from Leicester but he was probably partly lured by the promise of a blank chequebook (which he had for 2 seasons) and the advice of his late father – “Walk there if you ever get the chance”.
Rangers also pulled off a massive coup with Le Guen and I have to admit I was seriously worried about that at the time! Thankfully it turned out to be as bad as John Barnes.
The potential to get a proven manager is still there, if you are prepared to look beyond the EPL and dig a bit deeper. I’m convinced there would have been plenty of applications received for the job away from the glut of names spurted out by ra meeja. The ones being, or having been, headhunted by the board will definitely NOT be the only ones being considered. I’m still hopeful of some big news on the managerial front. Like I have said before, footy fans are all dreamers.
Back to super Sally, you can’t convince me that you are overtly delighted with his impending appointment given his less than sparkling record whilst occasionally at the wheel for cup games. If Lenny had a record like that whilst in charge of Celtic there is no way he would be being mentioned for the job.
Can’t disagree with most of what you say Billy, McCoist appears to be well thought of within the inner sanctum, but there is a large swathe of supporters who think the job will be too big for him.
Many of the Scottish and League Cup games have been poor to watch and we’re led to believe that Ally is the man in charge. I think Smith is looking to leave a Liverpool style boot room after his departure with McCoist then McDowall for future years.
Ah, the good old Liverpool boot room. Worked like an absolute clockwork charm for years, until they enticed a certain manager down south who signed the sort of ‘players’ who should never ever have been allowed to disgrace the red jersey – Ruddock, Dicks, Kozstma, etc. It took them years to recover from his calamitous time in charge, if indeed they ever have (asides from that freakish CL victory) fully recovered.
I do take your point about the value of ‘continuity’ at a football club. Handing over the reigns to someone who is fully versed with all the players and the stability that provides. If that sounds like I am mellowing to the (supposedly) impending appointment of Lenny, I’m not quite there as of yet!
