St Mirren and Kilmarnock gunning for breathing space
No room at the bottom

The big match of the SPL day comes in Paisley where St Mirren welcome Kilmarnock where both teams know a defeat could see them at the bottom of the SPL with just three games to go. This will depend on Falkirk defeating Hamilton but with survival in each team’s own hands at the moment, teams have to stay focused.
St Mirren picked up a point last weekend but both teams will be coming into this match feeling deflated. Kilmarnock were roundly gubbed at New Douglas Park whilst the Paisley side felt hard done by in losing a last minute penalty at McDiarmid Park. This allowed St Johnstone to equalise which cut the Buddies point haul from three to one.
As usual, Gus McPherson was not happy about the decision and let rip at the officials. However, with his job on the line, can you expect any other response from a manager? At least McPherson is showing some emotion, there haven’t been many notable public comments from Jimmy Calderwood of late.
This is not necessarily a bad thing, it is better for the manager to be rousing his players as opposed to providing media soundbites but sometimes you need a presence to keep the fans on side.
We could preview this until we are blue in the face but with so much at stake, surely both teams will be fired up for it?
Although they have regularly under-performed, there are goal-scorers on the park for both sides. Knowing this and the consequences of losing, the pressure on defenders is going to be cranked up to a high level.
Do not be surprised if a mistake or two decides the outcome of this match.
How do you see it going?
