St Mirren can take Hearts and create daylight at the bottom
Jambos looking to stay on course for top six

The problem with today’s clash is that it only really becomes a major fixture for the team that loses.
Both teams have objective to achieve before the end of the season and at the moment, both are in a position to achieve it.
St Mirren are five points and two places off the bottom of the SPL so a defeat could put them right in the firing line heading into the split. Hearts have a two point advantage in the two race for a top six finish.
With two games to go before the split, Hearts have the edge but a loss could be a disaster, possibly taking Hearts fate out of their own hands for the final game.
This means there could be a greater desire to avoid defeat today as opposed to going out and clinching the win, which may not make for the most exciting encounter. On paper, Hearts should be able to go to Paisley and win but that’s not a comment you can make with any confidence in the real world.
And don’t forget, St Mirren overcame Hearts at Fir Park in the semi-final of the League Cup, which definitely put a shadow on the early days of Jim Jefferies second reign at the club. The Jambos have bounced back well since that disappointment but it will rankle with the Tynecastle faithful when they look back on the season.

Both sides are coming back off a run of two games which highlight the highs and lows of football.
St Mirren delivered a demolition job on Celtic at St Mirren Park but that 4-0 win may have taken something out of the club as they meekly went down to Aberdeen in their next match.
The Jambos, well, they secured the bragging rights in Auld Reekie with a 2-1 win over Hibs but then were obliterated by Rangers at Tynecastle 4-1. It is this level of inconsistency that infuriates football fans but also makes the SPL an intriguing league.
It doesn’t have technical ability like a lot of leagues but it has a level of competition where most teams can beat any other team on their day. There is a great saying along the lines of “two old ladies racing is competitive…but it doesn’t mean I want to watch it” which is probably true for Scottish football and its highs and lows.
Both sides have a motivation level today, which should ensure that both sides are fired up for the clash. The matches between the two this season have been tight and today is unlikely to be any different.
Anyone confident of their team taking three points today?
