SPL Round-up – Sat 28th Nov 09
Its not often there is a full Saturday fixture list in the SPL.
With the live television match taking place on Saturday lunchtime, all players and fans can have a relaxing Sunday reading the newspapers and watching Sky’s extravaganza on football.
Even the most enthusiastic SPL fan would find it hard to turn from the Merseyside derby, Arsenal v Chelsea and then El Classico, Barcelona v Real Madrid.
That is for Sunday though, Saturday is for the SPL.
The following three matches have already been previewed on site:
Aberdeen v Rangers
Which leaves three matches to look at with the first on the bill being the Motherwell v Dundee United match.
All eyes will be on United to see if they can follow up last weeks win over Celtic with an away win and to see if Craig Levein will further enhance his claim to be the next Scottish manager.
Motherwell sit three points behind United and a home victory would see the two teams tied on 22 points.
Motherwell are not confident of any injured players returning so Jim Gannon is likely to utilise the same squad that drew with Aberdeen last weekend.
Last week’s equalising goal hero for United, John Daly, is likely to start on the bench again as he strives to reach full fitness whilst Gary Kenneth is still a bit away from returning to first team action.
Both teams have plenty to strive for this season and three points for either of the two could be a signal of intent for the Winter months.
Kilmarnock v Hearts
The battle of the smilers and two candidates for the Scotland job.
Okay, Csaba Laszlo may have touted himself for the job, possibly to give him a Plan B if redundancy comes his way but Jim Jeffries is getting a lot of backing in the press.
It sums up the state of both teams when Kevin Kyle is the stand out player of both sides and he could be the difference between the teams.
Kyle will have stitches removed from his a facial injury but is sure to feature whilst Hearts aim to bring back Calum Elliot and Larry Kington to their match day squad.
The unpredictable nature of both teams means that it could be a hard match to call but another defeat could spell the end for Csaba!
St Johnstone v Hamilton
St Johnstone have to use Hamilton as the template for this season and Saturdays clash is the first time they welcome the Accies to McDiarmid Park this season.
Both teams had contrasting weekend’s last time out, the Perth side going to Tynecastle and coming from behind to win.
This is the sort of victory that can galvanise a season whereas Hamilton were on the receiving end of Falkirks first league victory.
This means that Falkirk have narrowed the gap behind the teams just ahead of them and Hamilton could easily end up at the bottom of the table if they lose yet again.
St Johnstone don’t have their injury problems to seek as Gartland and Milne have already been ruled out whilst there are doubts over Anderson, Grainger and Kenny Duchar.
Hamilton on the other hand can point to a full squad, with Beuzelin being available again after suspension.
It is too early for talk of a six-pointer or relegation decider but there is no doubt that this match is vitally important for both teams chances of SPL survival.
Enjoy the weekends fixtures and remember to head back to WeKnowSFA for a full round-up.
