SPL hot-shot strikers head for double figures

Boyd blank narrows the gap at the top

Kris Boyd yet again came in for criticism for not scoring in the big games for Rangers but he is still at the top of the SPL striker’s chart.

A blank in midweek against Stuttgart on his first Champions League start may have dampened the Ger’s main striker but it is unlikely he will be off the score sheet for long.

The no show from Boyd on the score sheet did allow the chasing pack to narrow the gap behind him.

Celtic’s Scott McDonald could have drawn level with the Rangers hit-man but a missed penalty late on saw the Aussie striker stuck on 7 goals. It may well be that the independent goals panel will take the Celtic strikers opening goal away from him due to the deflection off a St Mirren defender but that would be harsh.

Another green and white clad forward notched two goals but it wasn’t Samaras or Fortune. Derek Riordan, quoted as the best finisher at Celtic Park by his old chum Gordon Strachan, was the difference between Hibs and Falkirk. These two Riordan strikes maintained Hibs good form and kept him level alongside McDonald.

It may be surprising to then see two Motherwell players on the list but the goals have been flying in for Jim Gannon’s men this season. Another for on-loan striker Lukas Jutkiewicz in his sides 2-2 draw with Motherwell placed him ahead of team-mate Ross Forbes, who had to settle for an assist yesterday.

Given that Boyd will be lining up against the bottom club Falkirk next weekend, there is every chance the 10 goal mark may be breached but the others remain in hot pursuit.

Will Boyd be in the SPL till the end of the season?

Who do you think will be the top marksman in the SPL?
