Who scheduled League Cup draw for transfer window deadline day?
Failure to maximise exposure yet again
It’s one of the days of the year when football fans are glued to the internet and radio stations in the hope that their team can pull off a surprising last minute signing or two that will make the difference to their season.
It therefore seems a bit strange then that the draw for the fourth round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup took place today. The games aren’t until the 21st and 22nd of September so it’s not as though there is any great rush but surely Scottish football should be trying to maximise exposure for their sponsors.
This week is an international week so holding the draw on Tuesday evening or Wednesday lunchtime would have been perfect. It would have allowed the Tuesday papers to detail the last day moves or failures before giving the draw some decent exposure before focus falls on Scotland’s first steps on the road to 2012.
Maybe we just like to moan but we don’t think the moves and shakers in the game do enough to push the product. Okay, rant over…on with the draw.
Rangers v Dunfermline
Kilmarnock v Hibernian
Aberdeen v Raith Rovers
Falkirk v Heart of Midlothian
Celtic v Inverness Caledonian Thistle
Ross County v Dundee Utd
St Johnstone v Queen of the South
Brechin City v Motherwell
Holders Rangers are at home to Dunfermline whilst two all SPL ties also catch the eye. Kilmarnock v Hibs and Celtic v Inverness Caledonian Thistle ensures that at least two SPL teams from this round will be dropping out.
Ross County get the opportunity to gain revenge for their Scottish Cup final defeat at the hands of Dundee United whilst Raith Rovers get the opportunity to dump Aberdeen out of a cup yet again.
Are you tipping any shocks in this round?

Nothing that the beaks in Scotland do surprises me to be honest, SFA, SFL & SPL all need disbanded and one group tasked with taking the entire Scottish game forward, made up of business people and respected football figures of the game, but sadly that makes way too much sense for it ever to happen. Instead we will be stcuk with Directors of clubs like Brechin, Airdrie etc etc running our game, there have even been guy’s in positions of power who held no office at senior clubs in the past!!
Anyway my rant over, some interesting ties and with both Rangers and Celtic drawn at home supposedly on the same night, expect one of them to be moved to the Tuesday to accomodate live TV on BBC. I suspect it will be Celtic as their tie against ICT has all the history of shocks etc and it’s an all SPL affair which should attract more interest.
Expect to see attendances of the 20k mark at both old firm games as well. I paid £96 for three games in the Champions League this week (discounted as I’m a season ticket holder) Paying another £10-£15 for a league cup game holds no excitement but as I signed up on the Scheme for all home games, I will have to pay it regardless.
Celtic play on the Sunday prior to the cup ties so we’d say they would be more likely to be on Wednesday.
Then again, the Beeb like their games to be on Wednesday don’t they? No point in trying to second guess that entity.
£10 for adults would be a fair price for both Celtic and Rangers but we’ll wait and see.
The BBC will probably show the Rangers v Dunfermline game on the Tuesday night. All other games will probably be on the Wednesday night.
Dunfermline will hold Rangers for 90 minutes but will lose 3-0 in extra time.
The Lottery numbers for tonight will be: 03 18 32 22 46 28
No good without the bonus ball.
If the Beeb show a game on Tuesday night, let’s hope the River City fanbase voice their displeasure.
Two strongly worded letters written in crayon will let the Beeb know who they are messing with.
Actually who gives a fuck what day the draw for this tournament is????There are bigger issues for a start crowds have been poor in this tournament for years know matter what the price seems to be.Lets be honest here is this tounament really needed its well known fact that a lot of clubs make a loss playing in it something major has to be done to address this situation if not then scrap the tournament there is not even a european incentive like there used to be.
