Ross County humiliate uninterested Celtic
Glory day at Hampden for the County
From the first whistle, only one team looked really interested in this tie and it would be hard to find anyone who would say Ross County were not the better team at Hampden Park. The attitude of the Celtic players stank to the high heavens, seriously short-changing their own fans but Ross County need not worry about that.
As a football team you do your own job and every County player can say they won their one-to-one match-ups that has delighted not just their own fans but fans from all over the country.
When the game was goal-less at half-time, with Celtic already forced into tactical switches and a substition, you wondered if County would regret not making more chances when they had such a great half?
It turned out that those from the North had nothing to worry about as they started the second half in even better form and deservedly took the lead on 55 minutes.
Steven Craig was given the freedom of Hampden Park to stroll through a Celtic defence who didn’t appear interested and slot the ball beyond Lukas Zaluska. This sent the band of 7,000 County backers into delirium but more was to come.
The expected onslaught from Celtic never materialised even though one or two chances were created. A last ditch clearance and the post were responsible for preventing Celtic grabbing an equaliser but that was all the hoops created.
And just when the Glasgow side were looking to build for a final push, County stunned them with a well worked goal which originated from the right hand side of the park. A tempting ball was played across goal for Martin Scott to tap home and seal County’s place in the Active Nation Scottish Cup final.
All credit and praise is due to Ross County and their fans can look forward to brilliant day out in May, which they have every chance of winning.
As for Celtic fans…….they will just want the season to end.
