Rangers: Novo punishment retains the Status Quo
Precedent set for SFA

£500 is nothing for top level SPL players, most of them would throw that away (and more) on a night out in the blink of an eye. This means that the fine handed to Nacho Novo for gestures made at Pittodrie in November will be viewed as lenient by some.
Then again, a £500 fine was the same punishment given to Celtic goalkeepers Artur Boruc at Lukas Zaluska (who was at Dundee United at the time) when they gestured to fans, so there is a level of parity between the fines.
Those of a non Rangers persuasion will say that the one finger gesture was the equal of the other gestures but the Spaniard then added to the gesture by mooning the Aberdeen fans. The Spaniard’s defence was that he was tucking himself in…and as we reported at the time, he was possibly just reacting to Aberdeen fans telling him to “go tuck himself”.
All in all, with the precedent being set, this level of fine was to be expected and anyone outraged at it being too lenient or too severe, probably needs to have a word with themselves!
It was an act of stupidity at the end of a dismal day for Rangers so hopefully the lessons have been learned and we won’t see any more of Novo’s buttocks.
The Spaniard has been injured but is expected to be back in the squad for Rangers trip to St Mirren.
The Rangers fans won’t be expecting any apologies but the Spaniard could make things up to them by notching a goal or two in Paisley.
This midweek is looking as though it could be another pivotal matchday in the SPL title race and Rangers will be looking to return to winning ways. The return of their Spanish striker may give them the edge on the road.
Should footballers be allowed to signal back at mouthy fans?

If every Aberdeen fan was fined that had made that or any other gesture to ANY of the Rangers players, along with any obsene language that was hurled the players way, I wonder what kind of kitty that would have pulled in.
