Rangers not missing Boyd’s lack of goalden touch
Boyd off the boil

Ever since that crazy night when Kris Boyd struck five against Dundee United between Christmas and New Year, the striker has struggled for goals. Don’t forget that he was out injured for a spell so the stats aren’t as bad as some people will think but there has been a dip in Boyd goals of late.
Kris Boyd came back in the 0-0 draw with St Mirren in the cup where he came on as a sub for the last half an hour. In the next league match, he grabbed the equaliser that ensured Rangers took a point from a controversial evening.
As important a goal as that was, it was the last time the player scored from open play in the league.
Since then Boyd has grabbed 4 goals, 3 from the penalty spot (2 in the cup, one in the league) and one goal from open play in the Scottish Cup.
Given that Boyd, although improved, doesn’t add too much to the overall play of Rangers, this may be seen as a worrying drop of form for Rangers.
With the club having picked up the league cup and looking on course for the league, not to mention hoping for the Scottish Cup to complete the treble, the club are in fine fettle. With other players stepping up to the plate, the loss of goals from Boyd hasn’t been too critical but for a player out of contract in the summer, this must be worrying.
Most players usually raise their game when approaching the end of a contract, Rangers fans may call this the Peter Lovenkrands effect but in Boyd’s case, it has gone the other way.
Perhaps the uncertainty over his future has lessened the impact of the player. Perhaps he has not fully recovered from his time off in January or maybe defences have wised up as to how to play the striker.
Of course, articles like this will usually ensure that strikers break their bad run of form so perhaps you should stick a couple of pound on Boyd scoring at Tannadice or Tynecastle this week.
Rangers fans, concerned about Boyd’s lack of goals?

Slightly, although being the type of striker he is, there’s always a tap in waiting somewhere along the lines for him.
The next two games will be crucial for Boyd and Rangers, obviously Wednesday is crucial to keep hopes alive for Rangers 7th domestic treble and it won’t be easy against a Dundee Utd side who will now fancy their chances against us, especially after coming back from 3-1 down at Ibrox and they will also take heart from St Mirren’s performance on Sunday. Saturday also see’s Rangers face one of the toughest games of the season, when we visit a rejuvenated Hearts, hard to work out whether they were good on Saturday or whether Hibs were simply rotten, either way it will be a test, should the 3 points get secured on Saturday, I will then feel safe that the title is staying in Govan for another year.
Looking forward to both games.
