Rangers and Kris Boyd: Happy talking?
Agent and Martin Bain in discussions
At the time of the Rangers AGM, Martin Bain announced that the club had begun discussions with Kris Boyd over extending the strikers contract, which is due to expire at the end of the season.
The striker seemed to rubbish these rumours by saying that he had heard nothing new but now its January, the player can talk to other clubs and it seems as though Ibrox talks have begun.
The BBC reports that Boyd’s agent Mark Donaghy met with Martin Bain on Thursday 7th to discus the terms that were offered to Boyd before the festive period.
There is a lot to think about for Boyd.
He is a Rangers man and seems the sort of person who prefers the life at home where he knows he is loved.
You can easily see Boyd staying at Rangers on a lower wage than he could get elsewhere, as long as the club makes a reasonable effort and proves that he is wanted.
However, he has won all the domestic trophies in Scotland and is now the SPL top goal scorer. Should Boyd now think about answering his critics and trying a new challenge?
With his scoring rate, regardless of how you dissect it, the ball gets stuck in the net with Boyd, there will always be a club willing to take a chance on him.
Ex-boss Alex McLeish could offer a Premier escape route and a reunion with Barry Ferguson.
Ex Celtic boss Gordon Strachan could provide a Championship challenge with Middlesbrough, a side in need of fire power.
Rangers have a few players heading out of contract this summer but there is no doubt that their fans will want the striker to receive one the most.
Should Boyd stay or should he go?

The Scottish MHedia will be sick if Boyd stays at Rangers. They wont be able to write their drivel about him going to Championship clubs anymore for a pitance! He signs up at Rangers, under contract he is worth……ooooh, i wouldnt like to say, but if Celtic want funny money for 1 trick pony McGready then Boyds goals must be worth at least double that. Not that hes for sale of course! Well done Rangers and keep it up Kris.
Some interesting thoughts there Peter.
There will surely be some sections of the Scottish media who will be happy if Boydy stays at Rangers, you cant think they’d all be delighted.
It is hard to tell the value of players these days, if Celtic are wanting around the £5m mark for Scott McDonald, no doubt you would be looking for a figure in excess of that for Boyd?
However, you should bear in mind, when it comes to goals in Celtic v Rangers matches or in the Champions League, the one trick pony is in the lead.
Thanks though Peter, no doubt many Rangers fans will be sharing your opinion and hoping that Kris Boyd signs up for a new contract at Ibrox.
I never said they would all be delighted i said they will all be sick! They wont be happy Rangers are keeping their top hitman.
I was talking about Aiden McGready mate
You think Celtic would get anywhere near 5m for McDonald, no chance, hes a sub for Australia and basically a sub for Celtic, 3m and he will be at Wigan.
Can’t help but think you are doing yourself a dis-service there Peter. Yes, some media types will be hoping that Boyd goes as his goals are crucial to Rangers, however, if you think there are no Rangers men in the media, you maybe dont read too many articles. Read more then the Celtic view and get a balanced opinion!!
The McDonald comparison was brought in because Boyd and McDonald are similar players. It would bea bit more relevant to judge their merit…Mcgeady is a completely different player and is harder to evaluate alongside Boyd…..although that won’t stop us!
As for McGeady, yes…and thats the bit where the “one trick pony” McGeady has outscored Boyd in Celtic Rangers games and in the Champions League came from. If the SPL stats say that Boyd is better than Larsson than these stats say McGeady is better than Boyd.
When of course, all they prove is that stats dont really prove anything.
£5m for McDonald on one hand is madness but compred to some of the other prices for players moving to England…for a striker who has netted against Manchester United, AC Milan and in Celtic Rangers matches, you can easily see why an English premier League would consider £5m to be reasonable.
If Sheffield United say they want £4m for Kilgallon (a defender, usually lower in value than a striker?) or Leeds in the Old Division 3 want over £2m for Beckford, then yes, you can say that £5m for McDonald may be about right (mind you, Beckford has scored v Man U as well!!)
Please name and give examples of “Mhedia” otherwise stop talking like a deluded FF’er.
There is no campaign to get rid of Boyd by Scottish media just like there is no media campaign to highlight the injustices served to Celtic in this title campaign, why does the “mhedia” not ask why Celtic have had an answer regarding the review panel or why its still not being used to punish Lafferty AGAIN?!
Some Rangers fans are beyond delusion and paranoia, the “Mhedia” HAHAHAHAHA
FOOL!
I shouldve said-
“Why Celtic have NOT had an answer.
And another thing,if the media in Scotland were biased towards Celtic I’d expect furious media campaigns to highlight disgraceful referreeing in our games against Hearts,Dundee Utd,Falkirk and of course not once but twice against Rangers.
Look at the uproar after Bougherra was sent of against Aberdeen, look at the uproar when Scott McDonald tackled Lee Wilkie(?),look at the uproar when Loovens tackled Edu,now compare and contrast (if you know what that means) the media reaction with the decisions in the two Celtic Rangers games this season.
The problem that “some” Rangers fans have is that if they dont get EVERY decision their way they think they are hard done by and when it comes to the media, given that most journalists in Scottish sport are of a Rangers persuasion anyway,I find it laughable that they now blame the media for being in Murrays back pocket for the last 20 year, hahaha, you couldnt make up a Rangers fans logic.
