Rangers could freshen things up v Motherwell
Ibrox expects a four point lead

Rangers may have been very convincing in their 3-0 victory over Dundee United at Tannadice but they have managed to strengthen the squad for Saturday’s match versus Motherwell.
Goalkeeper Alan McGregor returns to the squad after his hamstring injury but whether he replaces Neil Alexander who has kept two clean sheets is another matter. The Ranges squad is also bolstered by the return of Kevin Thomson. The former Hibs midfielder was laid low with a tired tongue after bleating to the press as usual…recurrence of his previous injury problems but he is available for the squad.
If Rangers win, they can open up a four point gap over Celtic at the top of the SPL, knowing full well that the Hoops travel to Tynecastle on Sunday, which won’t be an easy game.
It has not all been good news for Rangers. The failure of their Champions League campaign was reinforced after Unirea from Romania were drawn against Liverpool. The money from a Battle of Britain clash against the Anfield club would have provided Rangers with a great deal of money.
As it was, their early dismissal from the tournament sees them having to focus on domestic duties.
Celtic know full well that if Aiden McGeady picks up a booking at Tynecastle that he will be out of the Rangers game but Rangers have similar concerns. If Davie Weir, Lee McCulloch or Kris Boyd are booked at home to Motherwell, they will be ruled out of the New Year Celtic v Rangers clash.
This may well influence the team selection for the Rangers v Motherwell clash. Rangers should have enough in reserve to defeat Motherwell at home and Walter Smith may decide to shuffle his pack for the visit of Jim Gannon’s men.
Do you expect Rangers to go four points clear?
