Rangers Champions League opponents unveiled
Happy with the draw?

Manchester United
Valencia
Bursaspor
These are three teams that Rangers will face in this season’s Champions League.
The Scottish champions gained direct entry to the competiton and were placed in the third pot of seedings. This is lower than last season’s second pot but being in the group stages is reward enough.
The financial reward is clearly the major lure of the tournament but it still brings a healthy respite from the SPL.
The league has to be the focus for Rangers and Walter Smith this season but when that Champions League music plays before kick-off, it is only natural that the excitement for fans and players crank up a notch.
The Champions League draw is not the last piece of European excitement for Rangers fans tonight.
The news that Nikica Jelavic has been awarded a work permit ensures all blue eyes will be on Villa Park.
If the home side triumphs, Rangers can play their new signing in the Champions League. If Rapid master Villa for the second year on a row, Jelavic is cup-tied.
So…big draw and Villa win for all you Gers?

Should be fun!
Would have preferred either Chelsea or Arsenal as opposed to Manchester United but that said it should be a good occassion.
Valencia is a good draw as they have lost their two star men in Silva and Villa, though I’m sure they will have many other good players to slot in. Know nothing of the Turks Bursapsor other than it will be a hot atmosphere in Turkey for the away leg.
It’s good just to be there and I do think it will be a while before any Scottish representatives will get here again.
Martin Bain seemed to suggest that as well Quags but not sure if we agree.
There may not be an SPL runner-up anytime soon but the Champions route to the CL is not an impossible task for the league winners.
After last nights collection of results Ed do you still disagree?
Haha, thought about that this morning Quags!
Yes, still agree with that statement. Rangers are the favourite for the title and if they were the team to enter into the Champions route, their experience and know-how (even if McCoist takes over) will see them in with every chance.
So yeah, no knee-jerk reaction from us, still think the Scottish champs have every chance of being in the CL.
Was reading on the STV website there that only the Champions will get a chance to qualify for the CL next season. Should Rangers get a good couple of results in the CL, then we might get the second spot back for the following season. We are competing for this with the might of the Swiss league, absolutely shocking state of affairs.
