Can you help provide information about this Celtic painting?
Jinky and the Buzz-bomb

You may have read us talking about our friends at Cold Blooded Clarity and their recent charity night and raffle. They were raising funds for The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and so far, they have raised an outstanding £2,300!
Wow…that’s great but they are still looking to raise further funds.
The raffle was such a success because some very generous companies and friends chipped in with gifts and a few days before the event, the guys were offered a fantastic raffle prize. So good, they decided they would hold it back and use it on its own at a later date.
As you can see below, it is a painting featuring Jimmy ‘Jinky’ Johnstone on the ball against Rangers whilst Bobby Lennox looks on.

It is said to have hung in Jock Stein’s office for a while so if anyone has any facts or anecdotes about it, that would be fantastic.
Basically, in order to know as much about the painting and gather as much knowledge about it, they’ve asked us to help them out. Therefore, if anyone knows anything about it, please comment about the bottom of the page.
We’ve ascertained that the painting is of a League Cup tie between the two Glasgow giants in 1968, with Celtic triumphing 1-0.
So we know when the action took place….it would be good to know anything more about the painting, its origins or where it was held.
Our friends at Cold Blooded Clarity are not sure whether to raffle the picture or auction it – there are positive and negative elements to both – has anyone got any ideas?
This is a close-up of the artists’ signature, if anyone has any info about the artist:

So….if you’ve got any info, please speak up and help us help the Cold Blooded Clarity team to raise even more money for an absolutely brilliant cause.

Back in 1968, the League Cup was played as a league section then moved on to knock out stages. That year we drew 1-1 at Ibrox then won 3-1 at Celtic Park.
We beat them 1-0 at home in 1969 (and 2-0 at Ibrox). Maybe it’s the 1969 game you have.
Thanks John – the more the info the better. Cheers.
If the game is the 1969 League Cup tie, Bobby Murdoch’s free kick was misjudged by Neef – he lost the ball and Big Tam Gemmell dived in to head home the winner for Celtic.

This painting hung in Phil Coles Bar on Coatbridge along with another (i think by the same artist) depicting Stevie Chalmers goal v Inter in Lisbon. Sorry, not much help i know but maybe someone else can piece together?
Cheers Cam – thats good info – could help us find out more, thanks.
No worries – i seem to remember that it first appeared when Jimmy Hamilton (Peter Grant’s father in law) bought Coles and did the pub up. It was still there when Tommy Burns took over Coles until the pub was demolished a few years later (in the 1990′s i think?).
Only a few years ago it was for sale on EBAY by “Stephen Martin” who used to work for Celtic.I’ve seen Steves name on the back of Celtic videos so I do know it was genuine at the time but didn’t bid as I thought it belonged to Celtic unless it given to him as a gift.It went unsold a few times with no bids.I recall it being advertised on EBAY with a photo of big Jock sitting in his office with the painting on the wall just over his shoulder.

Brilliant stuff.
This kinda ties in with what we heard when we were given it and we know the circumstances in which it was given to the person..and it was a gift for work carried out during renovations.
Cheers.
