Nacho Novo: Do you say no thanks to him?

by WeKnowSFA

SFA charge for the man on the publicity trail.

You are a player that scored the goal that won the SPL title for your team. You are a striker that scored the winning goal in a Scottish Cup final. You are a player that scored the winning penalty that put your team through to the Uefa Cup final. What do you call your autobiography?

Well, if you are Nacho Novo, you ignore all they achievements and go to the thing that your fans love you for the most.

No, not mooning Aberdeen fans but supposedly “getting it right up” Celtic fans.

Yes, in a move that will shock no one in Scottish football, Nacho Novo, currently launching a DVD of his highlights at Rangers is in line to call his autobiography, “I said no thanks”.

This is a reference to the fact the player turned down an offer from Celtic before signing for current club Rangers. It was the first of many moves which has made the Spanish player a hero to the current Ibrox crowd. So much so that Novo’s spurning of Celtic has made its way into a stadium favourite, the title of the book coming from one of the lines of the songs.

The opening paragraph of this article tells that Novo has had a positive impact for Rangers. He rarely features in the starting line-up to good effect these days but as an impact player in the SPL, he is more than capable of doing a job for Rangers.

The thing is though, anyone who goes out of their way to antagonise fans that much can hardly complain about being hated. It is a two way thing and people need to remember that.

The fact that the SFA are looking to charge Novo for his antics at Pittodrie should come as no surprise. For all of the excuses offered by the Spaniard, it was terrible behaviour which shouldn’t have been undertaken in public.

Equally though, the player took a lot of abuse from the home crowd so why should they not be censured for their antics?

Each side in this argument is as bad as each other.

So yes, Novo hates the Celtic fans and they hate him. Whenever Celtic play at Ibrox, it is like a pantomime in front of the Broomloan Road end.

The Celtic fans booing whenever he comes near. Novo looking around to ensure the ref can’t see him and then grabbing hold of his privates or gesturing wildly to indicate he is no lover of the Celtic fans either.

If Novo looks back on his time at Rangers and feels that it can be summed up best by that title, then it is a sad indictment on him. If however it is purely a marketing exercise in milking more money from the fans who have been let down by the players attitude and performance on numerous occasions, then fair play to Novo, his agent and the publishing team.

It is sure to be a riveting read whilst Nacho outlines his love of Rangers, why we wants to earn a new contract at Ibrox and why Celtic fans are bad people for booing him. Perhaps he may even lift the lid on some more women he stole from team-mates and other exciting titillating stories.

There is very little middle ground with Nacho Novo. It is either “No thanks” or “Yes, yes, yes”.

Its actually pathetic that fans are dumb enough to buy into this balderdash,IMHO players cash in far to quickly nowadays with books dvds ect, now if Rangers fans have any sense they would be better of buying the books about the guys who formed Rangers or even a book about Slim Jim.

Cheers DB, its similar to our earlier conversation. No one is forced to buy the book, they can easily say “no thanks” as it were.

All clubs are guilty, especially at this time of year, of churning out trash to make money but they are easy gifts to buy.

A football players book tends to be just for Christmas, not for life!!

The book about the 4 men who started Rangers would appear to be the most interesting book for the Teddy Bears fan this Christmas.

Does anyone have a clear favourite when it comes to their favourite football book?
