Motherwell fans to cheer on Rangers and Celtic
Only under a certain circumstance though, let’s not go mad

When it comes to Motherwell fan’s opinions on Rangers and Celtic, it is sometimes best to just let them rant and rave.
Sure, it must be hard for the real Well fans to see bus loads of fans head to Ibrox and Celtic Park when they could be getting along to Fir Park but it’s not as if all the Well fans are the most tolerant of chaps and chapesses.
You get the decent ones who are indifferent to both, you get the acceptable ones who hate them both equally but then you get the ones who jump on the external bandwagon and hit out with chants that would shame many of the big two’s followers.
There are a lot of chips on the Lanarkshire shoulders but if the Glasgow two were to make it to the Scottish Cup final (and that’s a big if for now), there could be a Brucie bonus for Craig Brown and his boys.
Brown acknowledges this with the fact that there may well be another Europa League spot opened up by an all Glasgow cup final, which can only be good for the 5th placed team and hopefully Scottish football in general.
We should probably add here, if the Well continue their run of form, they will have a Europa League place in their own hands but as it was Broon that brought it up, we’ll stick with him. It could equally refer to Hibs, United or even the Jambos if they can get a run together.
As you’ll gather, we don’t have a lot of time for Wiggy Smith but his hopes of taking away the Uefa Cup (as it was at the time) spot from the Cup runner up was sensible for Scotland. Fair enough, it means something else in other countries and without the European offering, some domestic cups would not matter but it has been harming Scotland.
And it is a hard one, the fans of Gretna (all six of them), Dunfermline and Queen of the South would have enjoyed their time in the sun and the European trip so we don’t want to be killjoys but Scotland needs every co-efficient point it can lay its grubby hands on at the moment.
And as Motherwell fans will tell you, they won more games in Europe this season than Rangers and the same as Celtic, so if we need co-efficient points, the Lanarkshire boys would do their share.
So in this respect, a Celtic v Rangers final may give Scottish football a boost by giving out another Europa League spot to an SPL top six. However, tell this to a fan of Hibs, Ross County, Raith or Dundee United.
All of these fans will be desperate to see their own team in the final and thoughts of how the co-efficient may be affected won’t come into the consideration. Also, you can’t help but laugh whenever Celtic or Rangers go out of the cup to someone other than each other, it’s just the nature of Scottish football!
So…all we’re saying is, if the big two get the final, there could be a silver lining for some fans whilst they two batter lumps out of each other (hopefully only on the park) in another match built up to be the biggest game of ALL TIME EVER!!!
