McGregor to miss out versus the Saints
Rangers number one to sit out Ibrox clash
In the first half of this year, using Alan McGregor’s name in the sentence as Saints would have been met with laughter.
The goalkeeper made a fool of himself when he stuck two fingers up to the Tartan Army and his country whilst on international duty.
Since then, he has battled back to be Rangers No.1, showing a consistency which has seen him be the clubs star man in the Champions League.
Wednesday night in Seville wasn’t his finest match of the campaign but he performed admirably but a hamstring injury looks as though it will halt his run of form.
Rangers fans won’t be overly concerned as Neil Alexander has rarely let the club down when he has covered for McGregor and Rangers shouldn’t be overly stretched at the back by St Johnstone.
The midweek tie versus Dundee United is likely to be a trickier affair though and Walter Smith would prefer to have McGregor available than not.
The return from injury of Kirk Broadfoot, as well as Boyd and Naismith returning to the squad leaves Rangers near enough at full strength. Rothen and Mendes are still unavailable and Maurice Edu has suffered a setback in his hopes to regain full fitness but there are increasing options for Walter Smith.
Anything other than three points will be a disaster for Rangers and with Celtic having a tricky tie at Fir Park earlier in the day, it could be a profitable day all in for Rangers.
Will the loss of McGregor affect Rangers?
