Is Kevin Thomson Ranger’s Gary Caldwell?

by WeKnowSFA

Big mouth strikes again

WeKnowSFA - Glasgow Rangers

Both players left Easter Road and traversed the M8 to continue their career in Glasgow. Gary Caldwell took the Bosman route to Celtic Park whereas Kevin Thomson was a £2m midfield signing for Rangers.

Another similarity is that both players are loved by the media for their ability to dispense with soundbites. Thomson has an alleged close friendship with Keith “Jangle Jangle” Jackson which gives the player and media a direct route to each other.

Even when out injured, Thomson could be found making proclamations about who the best team in Scotland is and it’s good to see that the boy has a level of consistency.

Off the park, if not on it.

Thomson has yet to find full form after his latest comeback from injury but his ability to make the sort of statement that footballers shouldn’t hasnt been lost.

“I’ve been in a situation, being at Hibs, when we’ve had good seasons and the hype goes on, ‘The Old Firm are in crisis, blah, blah, blah’.”

“I’ll be very surprised if, come the end of the season, there’s not 15, 20 points between the Old Firm and whichever team’s third.”

“We enjoy the challenge of all these teams trying to come to beat us and make it tough for us.”

“And if they want to say that they’re going to beat the Old Firm then so be it.”

It is not that long ago since Hearts managed to squeeze in between Celtic and Rangers and has any club shown form to indicate they will race away this season?

Yes, history indicates that Thomson will probably be right but is there any need to come out and speak so arrogantly about the rest of the teams in the league. Given that Rangers make the trip to Tannadice on Tuesday night, its possibly bad timing.

If Craig Levein needs any help with the pre-match team talk, these quotes from Kevin Thomson may come in handy.

If Rangers do go on a run and open up the gap that Kevin Thomson predicts then fair play to them and him for having the confidence to state his opinion but there is a lot of hard work to be done first.

Do you think there will be a gap at the top of the SPL?

Of course, young Kevin is the boy who said he would “crawl across the M8″ to get to Ibrox. Try crawling across the m8, rather than along it, and see what happens kev ! Also, didn’t take him long to learn how to dive in the opposition box, as he did in his first old firm game. Used to be a Hibby but he’s a real hun now!

    Cheers Pete.

yeah, Kev has been known to indulge in a bit of hyperbole in his time.

It was the putting Scott Brown in his place chat that really stood out. When Thomson was fit, Rangers stuttered and stumbled but when he was out injured, they held their nerve to take the title.

You think at some point you would learn to keep quiet!
