Jim Gannon’s weekly headline grabbing spot

by WeKnowSFA

Silence fills the radio airwaves

If you were at the game or not, you want to hear what your manager had to say about the match. If you lost the game, it becomes even more important to hear their views on where it all went wrong.

Losing to Hibs at Easter Road is no disgrace but Motherwell would have gone into the match with every confidence. They have been playing well but a 2-0 defeat brought them back to earth with a bump.

There was a lot for Gannon to talk about.

Many feel as though Anthony Stokes was offside when he scored the opener. Motherwell had a great claim for a penalty and a wicked deflection for Hibs second goal took the game beyond the Steelmen.

All of these things were worth discussing but Jim Gannon decided to not turn up at the post match press conference and instructed his players to not comment either. All of which leaves the Motherwell fans and the media with nothing to go on regarding how they thought the match went.

Gannon has been fighting a few battles in recent weeks. Referee chief Hugh Dallas has been accused of being disrespectful to Gannon and the Scottish media are not highly regarded by the ex-Stockport manager.

Whilst those in the media were ruffled by Gannon’s matchday programme comments, this is the sort of thing that keeps them in wages. No matter how Gannon responds, there will be scope for discussion and debate and perhaps that is why the manager decided to not attend the post match press conference at Easter Road.

If it was just the manager’s prerogative, it would be fair enough but it isn’t.

Clubs are contractually obliged to represent at press conferences and Motherwell may find themselves receiving a fine from the SPL in the near future. With the current economic climate being what it is, this is something that the club do without.

It is good to see people like Gannon coming into Scottish football and trying to shake things up but Gannon will need to be careful he is doing it in the right way.

Do you think Gannon’s stance is the correct way to show his displeasure?
