Hugh Dallas questions Jim Gannon’s honesty and integrity

by WeKnowSFA

The rest of Scottish football laughs at the irony of that situation!

One thing that Scottish football has learned about Hugh Dallas is that it is not a problem you can solve by throwing money at it. Celtic fans were clearly in the wrong that night and could well have been punished further but the deification of Dallas by the Scottish media since then has been sickening.

The art of being a good referee is not being noticed. If a fan can walk away from a match and have to read the match programme to know who the referee was, then the ref has probably done well.

As much as it is said that all football fans love to hate the men in black, they’d rather not see them at all.

This wasn’t life for Shug Dallas.

Oh no, he was all about him and self-promotion. Every movement, every gesture, every decision was to maximise his exposure on TV and within the game and the fact that Dallas is now the chief of referees is further proof of his need to be in the spotlight.

We wont go into any individual decisions by Dallas because football fans will never agree but if Dallas refereed a televised match, you can guarantee the full time whistle would only be blown when the ball was under his control.

However, that was then and now, Dallas is in the spotlight for Motherwell boss Jim Gannon.

WeKnowSFA highlighted Gannon’s displeasure at Dallas after the Motherwell v Dundee United match but the row has continued after the SFA set out to discredit Gannon, stating he had lied about the number of letter sent to them.

Gannon told the Motherwell website;

“I am disappointed by the comments made by Mr Hugh Dallas of the Scottish Football Association and an unnamed spokesman representing the SFA, in which they question the honesty and integrity of my post-match statements on Saturday 28 November.”

“I have written to Mr Hugh Dallas and Mr Gordon Smith, as the chief executive of the Scottish Football Association, to seek some clarity on this matter.”

“I once again reiterate that two separate letters of complaint regarding the standard of referees were sent to Mr Hugh Dallas, in his role as head of referee department of the SFA, dated 21 September and 19 November.”

One concern for Motherwell boss Jim Gannon is that he won’t be doing himself or his club any favours by going toe to toe with the SFA. Managers should be able to question decisions in an open dialogue with officials if they do so courteously and in the correct manner.

Sadly, the SFA maintains this image and opinion that they are above the people who genuinely know the game. Jim Gannon is a newcomer to Scottish football so it is not right for the Motherwell boss to have his integrity questioned.

Hugh Dallas is a stalwart of the Scottish game and far too many fans know that his integrity and honesty have been called into question far too often.

Is this a battle Jim Gannon can win?
