Easter Road upheaval doesn’t prevent win

The loss of the East Enclosure saw Hibs having to kick off against Kilmarnock at 2pm but with the club winning their first match in a while, no one will be complaining. Things have not been going smoothly for John Hughes of late but could this match prove to be a turning point for the run-in?

As things stand, Hibs are back into 3rd place but Dundee United play on Sunday against Hibs Edinburgh rivals Hearts.

It looked as though it was going to be one of they days for Hibs as substitute goalkeeper Lee Robinson thwarted them at every turn. A penalty stop from Benjelloun’s was the obvious standout save but the keeper made a number of blocks as Hibs looked to run out of ideas.

Of course, the creativity of Derek Riordan has never been in question, just think of the inventive ways he has came up with to beat his Edinburgh club ban but his 78th minute strike showed all that is good about Riordan.

The player can hit a deadly free-kick and when your opponents are unable to produce a shot on target all day, you just need one goal to win it.

You wonder if Kilmarnocks bluntness in front of goal can be attributed to the absence of globe-trotting Kevin Kyle?

You can guarantee than Jimmy Calderwood will be browned with his player and the entire team for a below par performance.

Hibs get a monkey off their back and can at least enjoy their Saturday night knowing they are back in 3rd place.

After all, they have an extra hours drinking time!
