Hibs to expect Burnley bid for John Hughes?

by WeKnowSFA

Would Yogi be tempted?

WeKnowSFA - Hivernian

WeKnowSFA likes the Guardian, it has a weekly column by Charlie Brooker and that is good enough for us (mind you, we like The Times because they’ve got Caitlin Moran so what do we know?) However, the Guardian isn’t too hot for Scottish football news but it has been quick off the mark today in saying that Burnley could be interested in Yogi Hughes.

At the end of 2009, we said that Hughes was our Scottish manager for 2009 so we are not too surprised to see interest like this in the manager. However, he is only a few months into managing the club he grew up supporting and knows a lot about. Yogi is a Hibs man so it would take a big challenge to make him move.

There is some logic to this move though.

Hughes worked alongside Owen Coyle when the pair cut their managerial teeth at Falkirk. Burnley are said to be after another up and coming manager with something to prove and if they liked what Coyle did, there is some sense in going for his former partner.

It may be that this opportunity has just came up a bit too early for John Hughes. Hibs, although they have slightly faltered of late, are still on course to be best of the rest and could yet split or topple the Old Firm. You also get the feeling that John Hughes has an eye on the Scottish Cup.

Let’s not embarrass any Hibs fan by saying once again how long it has been since they won the Scottish Cup but to a Hibs man like Hughes, it may well be the Holy Grail. If Hughes could take Hibs to Hampden glory in May, he could walk out then but there wouldn’t be a happier man alive!

As far as we can tell Hibs fans, there is no great reason to panic. Darren Ferguson would also suit the bill for Burnley and he has knowledge of the English game which would be of benefit to Burnley. It may well just be a two plus two scenario but to be honest, it is a sign of how well Hibs are doing.

If Hibs were in the bottom six and toiling, Hughes name would only be linked with the Job Centre so enjoy the speculation while you can Hibs fans.

And lets be honest, the Guardian isn’t all good, the columnists in the Saturday magazine are all terrible, especially that Lucy Mangan…she is as enjoyable a read as Bill Leckie.

Will Burnley go North again for their next boss?

The “BBC understands” that Darren Ferguson will be named Preston North End manager.

That would take him out of the running for the Burnley job.

Did Martin O Neil not sue the Guardian for printing Balderdash??????????????

  • WeKnowSFA

The Observer was one, which is part of The Guardian Group.

Mind you, Martin has sued quite a few folk succesfully:

Daily Record, Observer, Mail on Sunday, Football365 and the BBC.

Hmm, we had better only say nice stuff about people from now on.

  • ferguson is going to Preston. I would very much like John Hughes as the next Burnley manager.

    Hi Claretsturf, thanks for that.

Yeah, we saw that about Ferguson.

If you get Hughes, he should do okay.

He comes across as the daft laddie but it is a bit of an act with him, he certainly is brighter than what he makes out.

He is a good football man.
