Hibs: Easter Road uprising in capacity and stature

Hibs East Terrace makes a final stand

Modern football stadiums, whilst an improvement in safety and comfort can be a little bit soul-less.

That is why some Hibs fans, although respectful of the progress, will be sad to say goodbye to the East Terrace after this weekend’s game with St Johnstone.

The benefits of this move can be seen in this comment from Rod Petrie;

“Once the new stand is finished, Hibernian will have one of the finest football stadiums in Scotland and the largest, fully-covered UEFA-compliant football stadium outside Glasgow.

Petrie, like most football club chairmen, has his critics but outsiders would say that Petrie has performed admirably at Easter Road. The clubs debt has been vastly reduced and even though big name players have been sold, money has been found to bring replacements in.

John Hughes, the current Hibs manager has been able to go out and bring in decent players, which has made the Leith side favourite to finish third…and possibly challenge higher.

This is due, in part, to Petrie’s grip on the finances;

“The fact the club is able to build a new stand during what is a very challenging time for football, and the economy as a whole, is testament to the rock solid financial footing of the club created by returning a bottom line profit for five consecutive years”

So, all change at Hibs and who knows, it could be the spur to help Hibs break their Scottish Cup hoodoo. Well, its unlikely to have any affect at all on Hibs chances of winning the Cup but if you are a Hibs fan, you will look to anything for a bit of hope!

Hibs already have the Famous Five Stand at Easter Road, what do you think the new stand should be called?

Here are some suggestions from WeKnowSFA:

The Joe Tortalano Terrace
John Collins Sit-ups Stand
1902 – ????
Rod Petrie Pavillion
The Not So Famous Five Stand
The Brown, Thompson, Whittaker and Fletcher Stand
And of course, there will definitely be a Vladimir Viaduct….that’s where the toilets will be!

What would you call it?

    The Mickey Weir End.

  • I think Hibs should look to the future and name their new stand after one of their up and coming young stars Fergus Bell.

    The could call that stand the The Fergus Bell End.

    Nice one Dubs, but I think you’ll find the Man Ci’eh fans got there first with that one!

    Any new stand should include a personal nuightclub / hangout for Deeks Riordan. Poor lad needs somewhere to go surely.

    To be unveiled by Irvine Welsh.

  • The Brown, Thompson, Whittaker and Fletcher Stand

    Ha, well it was their transfers that have put Hibs in a position to build.

    Think the East Stand should suffice.
