Hibs cup hopes hit a hitch

Hibees have to hit the North in a replay

Twice Hibs took the lead against Division One side Ross County but twice the team from the North pegged back their upper league opponents. The replay is set for the 23rd of March and Hibs will have it all to do to book their place in the semi-final.

You can’t always take stats as a true reflection of a game but Ross County had more shots on target and off target than Hibs managed. Given that the Hibs forward line is where their strength is supposed to lie, this will have been a surprise to some.

Hibs have definitely been toiling of late but digging out a 1-0 victory against Kilmarnock would have given the fans hope that a corner had been turned but where to now? In recent months, Hibs have had more corners turned than a popular library book and perhaps John Hughes is unsure of how to get change things about when things aren’t going their way.

Nish and Riordan grabbed the Hibs goals in the first half with Hibees captain Ian Murray scoring an unfortunate own goal.

This was the scoring until just over 10 minutes left when Michael Gardyne launched the ball high into the net to tie the game again.

The First Division side pressed for a winner but the SPL side managed to hold and give themselves another chance to make the semi-final and break that cup hoodoo.

Can Ross County finish the job?
