Hibs cup hoodoo continues as Ross County strike late

County to face Celtic at Hampden

Not even a right good Hibs man like Yogi Hughes, who knows the pain the clubs fans have suffered in the cup, was able to give Hibs the chance of breaking their cup hoodoo.

St Mirren fans think they’ve had a bad week but at least a lot of their fans have seen them win the Scottish Cup. It is getting to stage where only Dr Who can recall a Hibs victory and even then, the Cybermen have won it twice since 1902.

The Scottish Cup draw had been favourable to Hibs this season but even with the SFA handing them an on-paper easy route to the final, the Leith team managed to mess it up severely. Truth be told, they were lucky to get a draw at Easter Road, so in that respect, justice was done at Victoria Park.

A goal-less first half turned into a thrilling second half when Anthony Stokes opened the scoring almost from the kick-off.

With twenty minutes to go, Hibs were still clinging on to their lead but Garry Wood was able to bundle the ball home after what Arthur Montford would describe as a stramash in the goal-mouth.

With extra-time looming, it could have been acceptable for both sides to hold on for the thirty minutes but Ross County were having none of that.

Any Hibs fans looking for a scapegoat for defeat will be casting their eyes towards Graeme Smith who made an absolute hash of coming for a corner allowing a striker called Boyd to net the winner. Not an uncommon headline in recent years in Scottish football but Scott Boyd is the toast of the North and no doubt, Gorgie.

Yes, the highlight of Heart’s fans season has just came around and yet again, Hibs have no one to blame but themselves. Yogi will be feeling it as much as any fan tonight.

Will Hibs ever win the Scottish Cup again?

They really are on a stinking run of form, culminating in the exit from the Cup, something that will be really hurting them for the rest off the season. They shouldn’t be losing to teams like Ross County with the quality of player that they have, but who said football was fair?

How do they finish the season now? All the good work done in the early part of the season, wasted. There was talk of them at one point finishing above Celtic, at this rate they will be fortunate to finish above Hearts and also lose the lucrative European place.

Given that Hughes now starts his 6 match touchline ban, Hibs fans have a lot to worry about with regards to how the performances will pan out.

As you say, if they finish below Hearts this season will be remembered as a disaster, a shame for the Hibees when it looked so good for so long.

  • Hughes is getting found out big time and is still getting an easy ride from all his chums in the media. All those folk who were critical of the Falkirk fans last season are about to see what we were on about. The man is bufoon! But don’t worry Hibees ,Yogi has “a vision….”

I told you the only way Hibs will win the Scottish cup is if the final is @ Celtic Park!!!!!!!!!!

To be honest Baptie, that is something that we have heard you saying in recent times so kudos to you on that shout.

More focus on the relegation battle coming soon, things have been a bit busy at WeKnowSFA Towers this week (well, when we say towers, we mean skip)
