Hearts are the latest team to fall foul of the refs

Two off in Hamilton for the Jambo’s

Things aren’t easy for Csaba Laszlo but his team aren’t making it any easier for him. Dundee United proved yesterday that being down to 10 men is no barrier to winning a game but it makes it harder.

Being down to 9 men is only going to make it tougher.

Hearts started horrifically in Hamilton, going two goals down in the first 24 minutes but looked to be right back in it before half-time.

A goal on 39 minutes is always going to scare the team who previously held a two goal lead and Eggert Jonsson would have given extra life to Csaba Laszlo’s half time team talk.

Perhaps Laszlo had his team fired up too much. Michael Stewart was the first to see red a few minutes after the restart for an incident which was certainly debatable.

It is possible that Stewart’s reputation preceded him on this matter as in other games, a booking and severe talking to would have sufficed. However, the laws of the game require referees to produce a red card for matters they consider to be of violent conduct.

This seemed to affect Hamilton more than Hearts as the nerves of throwing away a lead to a team with ten men crept in. Hamilton are still a young team and perhaps one or two more experienced players would have calmed the situation down, allowing them to utilise their man advantage.

With less than ten minutes to go, World Cup bound Algerian player Ismael Bouzid received the Jambo’s second red card of the match for a trip on James Wesolowski.

Even then, Hamilton were stricken with nerves and Hearts had nothing to lose. An agonising 5 minutes of injury time, the one benefit of the two red cards was signalled, causing anxiety attacks in the home sections of New Douglas Park. The home side enough though to pick up a very welcome three points.

The Hamilton win means that only one point separates Hearts in 7th place and Kilmarnock in 11th spot. That is a very tight group and if Falkirk can re-attach themselves to that group, it is going to be one almighty battle against the drop in the SPL this season.
