Heart’s Andy Driver puts Scotland in the driving seat
Player ‘dead keen’ to join the Tartan Army

Craig Levein needs all the help he can get, so the news that Andy Driver of Hearts is dead keen to pledge his future for Scotland has to be seen as a good thing.
Driver may have appeared for England at the U21 European Championships last summer but there is a big difference between that level and the English national team. No offence to Driver but it is a huge step up with regards to breaking into Fabio Capello’s team.
Therefore, if the Hearts man can get back successfully from injury, he may have a long and hopefully fruitful international career with Scotland.
Given that Driver is set to qualify through the schooling route, it will no doubt re-open the debate about what eligibility for the national team should consist of. You cannot fault Scotland for getting players on board though that are eligible, if other nations do it, Scotland cannot afford to limit themselves in any way.
It is slightly sad news for Hearts fans though as it means they will now have to boo Driver every week in the manner that they boo Aiden McGeady. After all, McGeady opted to play for another national team and that is the reason the Jambos boo him, isn’t it?
Never mind that, hopefully it’s welcome aboard Andy and full steam ahead for 2012.
Would you have Andy Driver in the Scotland squad?
