Will Falkirk’s Pressley be slated for his ref outburst?
Under fire refs get it in the neck again
When you are fighting for survival and peoples livelihoods are on the line, it is natural to get upset about decisions that don’t go your way.
That is why it is not a huge surprise to see Steven Pressley voice his displeasure at what he saw as a terrible penalty award against his team in the match versus St Johnstone.
If you get to half-time with a lead, a team can have a great psychological boost so the award would have been extremely tough for Pressley to take.
He had this to say post match:
“It was a game-changing decision, a big call and a decision he gets wrong
Not enough is made of decisions against us. If the Old Firm get a penalty against them then it’s back-page headlines.
(But it’s) easy to make decisions against Falkirk – no real repercussions, no discussions on it. That has to change.
We can’t accept what we got today, no way. No way can we accept being an easy target for referees.
If I’m hauled up, so be it. I’m extremely angry and angry for my players, who put so much into it.
In terms of penalties against us, it seems to be a club that referees find easy to give penalties against. That has to change.”
This sort of talk is common place in the game, as we said; it is natural for managers to be angry about decisions they don’t agree with so we don’t have a problem with what Pressley said.
However, should we expect the media to be up in arms slating Pressley’s comments and calling them a cynical attempt to put referees under pressure. Will we see George Peat surfacing from the trough long enough to voice his displeasure at Pressley and the attack on officials?
Probably not, as Pressley indicates, Falkirk stories don’t shift units nor do the actions of a Falkirk manager anger people in the way that certain clubs manage to do.
So there you go Steven, we are highlighting the matter for you, you’re very welcome!

You can’t really compare it with the Celtic v refs thing which was all done AHEAD of the old firm game to put pressure on the officials before that match, 2 different situations really. No doubt Pressley will get slaughtered by the SFA for this but he is right, it was a joke of a decision and did turn the game. However, Prezzer should really be focussing on how on earth we are ever goign to score again as we didn’t really look doing it again in the second half. Practising long throws and corners is all very well but how about practising putting gthe ball in the net. I think our midfield have socred about 2 goals between all season and big Enoch is never going to score lots of goals. Ho hum. Hamilton next week could finish us off I fear.
It’s still coming out and slating refs…and much like his timing, Pressley probably got there as quickly as he could.
Perhaps there was an official directive that crazy penalty decisions were allowed this weekend – there was a few more on show around Scotland.
