Falkirk welcome St Mirren in the most vital pre-split game this weekend
Its big…but it’s no decider

With just one set of league fixtures before the split, every game is taking on an increasing importance but the split ensures every game at the bottom from here on is vital. This means that St Mirren and Falkirk have six huge games before the season is over but Saturday’s game could be crucial in determining the final positions of the bottom six.
Falkirk are at home and sit three points behind St Mirren. The goal difference is such that it would take a 7 goal victory to get the Bairns off the bottom of the league, so that’s fairly unlikely but a home win means it is all level on 28 points at the bottom.
3rd bottom Kilmarnock are away at Tynecastle so it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the bottom three clubs could be separated by just the one point.
With all of the matches featuring games against the fellow strugglers, this sort of gap would see the split responsible for another exciting climax to the season.
Yes, the SPL split is fiddly and creates un-even matches but for bringing a focus and excitement to the Scottish game, the split has more than did its job.
So, we’re trying to big this match up and it is crucial but with 5 games to come after the split, tomorrow will decide nothing. Last season, Falkirk lost to St Mirren in the second last game of the season and only the most optimistic of Bairn would have felt they would have kept their top flight status.
They did so tomorrow’s game may not be the decider with regards to SPL survival. Mind you, if the Buddies win, they’d have a 6 point cushion and a home game v Falkirk after the split to come.
So, no pressure on Steven Pressley again…

I don’t relish being a Falkirk or St. Mirren fan today. It’ll be a nervy 90 minutes..
