Falkirk loss is what the Doctor ordered

Well, it was for the other teams at the bottom

St Johnstone had not won an away match in the SPL this year so far but when you need to break that sort of run, where better to go than the bottom of the league team?

This was a game where Falkirk would think that something was up for grabs with regards to getting off the bottom. With Hamilton and St Mirren clashing at New Douglas Park, something had to give and the Bairns would have been positive for this match.

Things got even more upbeat when Mark Twaddle headed the home side into the lead but even with a lead, Falkirk never looked comfortable or commanding. The defensive teachings of Steven Pressley never got through to his team (or maybe they did) and they needed to get the second goal to bring some calm to The Falkirk Stadium.

Getting through to half-time with a lead is important so you can imagine the anguish at giving away a penalty on 45 minutes which Liam Craig buried to level the game at half-time.

The second half was edgy and the next goal was likely to be a winner and as the game wore on, a point would have been a reasonable return because at the time, Hamilton and St Mirren were drawing as well.

In the space of the last few minutes, Hamilton grabbed a winner but so did St Johnstone with Kenny Deuchar picking up from a Tam Scobbie mistake to ensure the home side had no points to show for their efforts.

St Johnstone are now on 31 points, 6 behind Hearts. However, they have three games in hand over the Tynecastle side so a top six placing is not out of reach for the Perth side.

As for Falkirk though, they need to start winning and soon.

  • The penalty chanegd the game and it was never a penalty. We just never got going again in the second half after that. Hurts to see Liam Craig play well and score against us a guy that should never had left Falkirk. Thanks Yogi for that. I feel for Tam Scobbie a bit, he gives his all and has potential still I think but he’s just made a number of high profile errors in recent weeks. This was the most costly of them all so far……
