Eddie May tempts fate
Falkirk boss has every confidence in himself
Football management is not a long term employment opportunity these days, particularly not in the SPL. This is why it was strange to see Eddie May come out with such a clear plan for his time in charge at Falkirk.
“I have a plan in my head that I will only be here for a certain number of years”
Years? Up until a few weeks ago, May’s tenure was likely to be measured in months.
A win and a draw in succession have made life a little brighter for Falkirk but yesterdays defeat at Hibs will have knocked some of the stuffing out of them. There is no disgrace in losing to John Hughes’s Hibernian side but any opportunity to move off the bottom of the table that is spurned will annoy the fans.
May also made remarks that may be perceived as a dig at Hughes, who was Falkirk manager last season.
“And, hopefully, I’ll leave the club in a good state.”
It is no secret that May and Hughes are not the best of friends and the two have played out a small war of words in the media since Hughes moved to Hibs. The 2-0 win, thanks to two strikes from Derek Riordan will have pleased Hughes but it won’t have dented May’s confidence or self belief.
Whether the Falkirk board are happy enough to leave the manager in charge for three years remains to be seen but if they stay at the bottom, its unlikely May will remain in charge until 2012.
Being a point adrift from safety and Kilmarnock is no reason for panic but May is more relaxed than most Bairns would like to see.
