Dundee United: Houston has a problem?

Can the caretaker boss clean up versus Killie?

WeKnowSFA - Dundee United

Being the caretaker boss is never the best position to be in but it is one that is hard to turn down.

With the fact that there is unlikely to be a full-time Assistant Managers role alongside Craig Levein, Peter Houston may be re-evaluating his career path. There is talk of a full-time scouting position in the Scottish set-up but Houston may fancy being his own man would certainly boost his chances of getting the United post…if he wanted it?

A win at home to hapless Killie would be a requirement and then continual progress over the next few games.

There is a trip to Ibrox there but as Levein’s team capitulated in their last two games against the Champions, Houston probably can’t do any worse.

However, all focus is on Tannadice today as everyone looks to see what the reaction to Craig levein’s exit will be.

Lee Wilkie and Francisco Sandaza remain unavailable whilst Morgaro Gomis is suspended so there is no great need for Houston to change things around. However, given the club’s last game was a 3-0 home defeat to Rangers, there may be some changes made by the new boss.

Kilmarnock travel to Tannadice a foot off the bottom and reeling from last week’s home defeat against Falkirk. It may be rough waking up in Killie these days but Jim Jeffries needs to start turning things around.

No one expects Kilmarnock to be fighting for top six these days, there have been sever financial cut-backs but fighting relegation is a bitter pill to swallow.

Mark Brown should have recovered from illness to take his place in goals but Kilmarnock do not have too many fresh concerns. Jim Jeffries would probably love to rotate his first XI but there are not too many options available.

With a new man in charge, Kilmarnock may feel as though they have an opportunity to mug United and bring some Christmas relief to their own long-suffering fans.

Can Houston stake a claim for a permanent post?
