Hat-trick for Daly punishes the Bairns

WeKnowSFA - Dundee United

With only a point needed to take Falkirk off the bottom of the league, you would have thought the Bairns would have been well up for the fight against Dundee United.

For whatever reason, the home team never got going and the Tangerine visitors took advantage of their opponents weakness, and to be fair, were very impressive in their own right.

Weak defending led to United’s opener but David Goodwillie still had a lot to do before drilling the ball home to give the away side the lead. The home side pressed from here but just when they thought they were close to getting an equaliser before half-time, they went 2-0 down.

United’s new goalkeeper Dusan Pernis looked impressive yet again and his delivery led to United’s second goal. The keeper made a great save and launched the ball upfield and with Pele dithering, Daly stepped in to lob the ball home.

On the 57th minute, the game was over as a contest as Daly struck again, slipping the ball beyond Olejnik.

The Falkirk crowd were showing their displeasure with their performance and their day was made worse with 2 minutes to go when Daly completed his hat-trick by heading home from a short distance.

Falkirk grabbed a consolation goal in injury time with Moutinho scoring the first goal that Pernis has conceded in Scottish football.

Falkirk boss Eddie May was brutally honest about his sides performance;

“It was painful. I thought the first two goals were gifted, and the second two were far too easy, but overall, I thought Dundee United played well and we were absolutely hopeless.”

Unsurprisingly, Dundee United interim boss Peter Houston was a lot more enthusiastic about the match;

“But our players worked hard, they started the game well and in the second half they were sensational.”

“The biggest disappointment for them was losing a goal in the last minute.”

Can United finish third…or even higher?
