New Dundee United boss in a week

That is the hope of chairman Thomson

It has been a terrible Christmas and New Year period for Dundee United but chairman Steven Thompson hopes to offer some cheer to the Tannadice faithful. A new boss could well be appointed before the end of the week.

Some newspapers are stating that John Collins has ruled himself out of the running after talks with Thomson, which appears to be leaving the way open for Raith Rovers boss John McGlynn.

McGlynn won the Second Division title with Raith Rovers and is doing reasonably well with this season in the 1st. Raith currently sit 7th in the league, a full 12 points off the bottom spot and 11 off the relegation play-off zone. They also have two games in hand compared to Airdrie at the bottom so McGlynn should be confident of the side maintaining their place in Scotland’s second top division.

Whether this is enough for Dundee United to believe that he is their man is a different matter but McGlynn does have coaching experience at Hearts.

The compensation should not be too costly for the cash strapped Tannadice club and the talk has went quiet about any other potential candidates.
