Looks like Danny Wilson is the next one out the door at Rangers
Liverpool seem set to take the youngster on

With Rafa Benitez now at Inter Milan, many Rangers fans would have thought that the interest Liverpool had in Danny Wilson last season would have ended. However, with scouting teams and long-term prospects, it seems that the Ibrox youngster remained a keen target for the Scouse club.
If the deal goes ahead, Wilson will be swapping Champions League football for Europa League but the bigger wage packet and the English Premier League will be more than enough compensation.
Given that the news at the moment is mostly gossip and Twitter posts, its hard to say how much Rangers will receive for Wilson. Some of the chat seems to say a figure of £2m which could rise depending on a number of factors but as we say, it’s probably best to wait and see.
If Rangers were to receive a deal in that sort of region, it would have to be considered great business for a player who is out of contract in a year. Wilson has certainly shown a lot of potential in his time at Ibrox but he still has a long way to go before anyone would say he was an established player.
It’s not likely that Wilson will be an instant first team pick at Anfield either but he will definitely add something to the squad and new Reds boss Roy Hodgson will see the benefits of having him. After all, Hodgson was the man who had Chris Smalling at Fulham for a handful of games before Manchester United stepped in with a big money bid for him.
So…another one out and some more money brought in, Rangers really need to start adding to their squad before they start struggling to fill a match day squad.
Do you think Wilson is the last one out the door at Ibrox?

Think you’re getting this all wrong. I totally understand tha Wilson wants to go to England, because, let’s face it, they have the most competative league in the world which the SPL isn’t even close to, and as an ambitious player, you would be crazy to turn that down.
And Liverpool really looks like a very interesting club for a young lad, with a lot of great talents, so personally, I’m sad to see him go, but i totally understand him.
Rangers have just issued a statement saying that the deal is agreed in principle to take Danny Wilson to Liverpool. The article is quoted as saying Rangers will receive £2 million upfront for the 18 year old defender who broke into the team in the last season when Madjid Bougherra was out injured or awol after International appearances.
With the possibility of the fee rising to £5 million could we finally see Rangers get a new player, the last new player to arrive at Ibrox was Jonathan Rothen who arrived on loan last summer but didn’t make it past the January transfer window when he returned to France.
Unusually there is still no official word from Liverpool, it is usually common practice to let the new club announce any transfer news first but it looks like Rangers have jumped the gun on this one to keep their fans up to date with all the latest coming and mostly goings from Ibrox.
Do Rangers fans think the money will help Walter plug the gaps or is this just another worrying sign that the bank is milking everything they can get from the cash strapped club?
It’s a really good move for Wilson…and in fact for Rangers as well.
considering the young [ very talanted] wilson wont sign a new contract and is in his last year its a must to take the money . he will also probably triple his wages and get a chance at the big time so i think both parties will be happy enough .
personally i think he should have stayed and played for a season or two as this is a very good boy and could go anywhere in my opinion , alex ferguson rated him as the best left sided defender at his age in britain .
He’s been tapped up by Liverpool a long time ago, the final piece of the jigsaw was him getting his big match experience last year.
In isolation, it’s exactly the reason why Murray Park was created. Hone the best youth players in Scotland and sell them on for a tidy profit. £2M for an 18 year old, which may rise to £5M is a very good piece of business, especially given the lad didn’t want to extend his contract anyway.
Pulled together with all the other goings on, well it doesn’t make for pleasant viewing. last year we had a threadbare squad and were a bit lucky with injuries and suspensions, this year we have lost Novo, Boyd, Thomson, Wilson & Beasley all of whom played roles in the first team, albeit Beasley not so much.
I sincerely hope that Rangers have a plan and that the wily old fox Smith is playing a great game of poker, then again I am a glass half full person.
It’s a troubling time yet again just after securing a title, same thing has happened to the club in the last 4 SPL titles that we have won, carnage and upheaval.
Another out – Nobody in
This is disgraceful, well done Bain, Murray etc, you have managed to rip the soul out of my club
Least we have Davie Weir on a new contarct and Kirk, disgusting
Well…the wily old fox has already started laying out his hopes for next season with regards to suspensions and injuries.
Smith is far too long in the tooth to actually mention refs directly but everyone knows what he has been meaning.
Just under a month until the SPL kicks off and mind-games and pressure tactics have started already.
Ed
I think your paranoia is showing, all Smith has done is point out the bleeding obvious, given we had 3x as many players as Celtic sent off last season you shoulnt worry bout “mind games”
Haha…easy there Scooter! If Rangers had 3x as many players sent off as Celtic then what Smith is doing is looking out for his team and putting pressure on it to not happen again.
That’s what you’d expect managers to do…its all about gaining advantages. Smith knows his squad is depleted for this season so he’ll have to get everything working in his favour…and if that includes playing mind-games and instilling an “us against the world” feeling in his squad…he’ll definitely do it.
Why cant you just accept the obvious, He said if Rangers suffer suspensions and injuries they are down to bare bones, to me thats a fact after letting 6 first team players go without replacing a single one. No mind games, no pressure, just fact
I dont understand why he is still there, last year he said he couldnt work in the circumstances if they got any worse, from where I am looking its 200x worse than last year..
6 out, nobody in, its disgraceful
It may be fact Scooter but we think Smith will be keen to get things working in his favour. We’re not saying he is wrong to do it or that managers shouldnt, we just think he knows the score and how to get the best from his players…so we’ll maybe agree to disagree on that one.
There is well over a month to go in the transfer window – just under a month until the SPL starts, Rangers don’t have the early European start like other clubs…all of these may well be factors in the slowness in bringing players in.
Its maybe getting a bit uncomfortable for Rangers fans but it’s far too early to hit the panic button
Ed
Trust me time for panic has passed, mark my words, Bougherra is next to go, that will leave McGregor and Davis is the only two sellable assets at the club, 2 sellable assets, what happens after they go?
We have already proved by chasing Chris eagles, linked to Tonge etc the level we are looking to bring in is nothing compared to what is leaving
I say it again, its a total disgrace, let me make it clear, i do not and would not blame Walter smith, Martin Bain and David Murray are guilty of asset stripping this club, simple
The loss of Bougherra wouldn’t be a surprise and the way Kenny Miller has been talking and one year left on his contract, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him go.
That starts to get into dangerous territory and if you were to add McGregor and Davis, then yes, there would be massive problems at Ibrox.
The loss of Sasa Papac through injury for the Australian tour is no doubt a big concern but he should be okay for the season’s start (we think?)
Rangers do need numbers – the days of winning a league with 13 players (even ignoring the need for a full subs bench) are long gone – no one will argue with that and the higher the quality the better, as it would be for any club.
However, when you think that Eagles was earmarked for a wide position – would you say he was worse than Novo or Beasley?
It’s unlikely Rangers will be able to get a striker that grabs as many goals as Boyd but perhaps a new striker could score a fair share whilst assisting for other strikers. The centre of midfield looks solid, even allowing for the loss of Kevin Thomson.
Andy Webster is an addition but with Wilson gone, a major replacement will definitely be needed if Bougherra goes. McCulloch, Beasley or Broadfoot could step in at the back but that would weaken other positions.
By the time Rangers get back from the Australian tour, it’ll be easier to review the situation of the squad and see how things really are.
Edu is not the answer in midfield, and although McCulloch did a great job last year hes no centre midfielder
Not that upset Novo, Beasley, Stevie Smith have gone surprisingly also not that upset about Boyd, not a player ive ever had a great deal of time for!
As I stated last week, gutted Thomson was just allowed to leave, think he kept things going for us and did everyone else’s dirty work.
However why should I or any Rangers fan believe players are coming? almost 3 years now since we signed anybody on a permananent basis, the bank situation is getting worse (again looking from the inside) than its ever been
Bain and Murray have lied, lied again and lied som more when you look back, god its only a metter of weeks ago we were led to believe the bank had sanctioned £5 Million of CL money for new players, this before we freed up best part of £80k a week (£4m in a year) and took in £4m in transfer fees from players we have moved on
Its a disgrace and going to get a whole lot worse
Should have said looking from oustide, if I had inside info I may be calmer!!!
scooter relax if they dont sign players we will have to join the soccer 7s
Well Jaz…we were sworn to secrecy on this one but it’s going to break soon so we may as well crack on.
The reason Tennent’s have sponsored Celtic and Rangers is to herald the return of the Tennent’s Sixes in January. It appears that Rangers may have taken it too literally.
well as long as the teams in it give us a test unike the spl
Having to keep a striker in the opponents half may prove to be a problem if there are no strikers left at the club!
Liverpool have now put out a statement about the possibility of Danny Wilson moving to Liverpool from Rangers.
There is nt mention of money or any extra bonus’

ha ha dubs hes away for nothing is that what were to believe.
jazrfc … I didn’t say that, you are just putting words into my mouth.
It will be for an undisclosed fee probably and we won’t know the real figures until it hits the Rangers accounts and even then it can be difficult to work out.
