Celtic trip to Kilmarnock postponed
A number of games forced off by bad weather
The cold weather has caused the postponement of a number of games in the SPL this midweek with the Tuesday night game between Aberdeen and Falkirk the first to fall by the wayside. With Aberdeen not playing at the weekend due to bad weather, their team has had an enforced Winter break of their own.
The situation for the Wednesday night games is not any better and three games have already been called off.
Hamilton v St Mirren was called off early, which was followed by the postponement of St Johnstone v Hibs and this was quickly followed by Kilmarnock v Celtic being postponed on police advice.
It is annoying for the fans who were looking forward to a midweek round of fixtures but safety is paramount and no one will complain too much. At least the games have been postponed well in advance, ensuring that fans haven’t undertaken a wasted journey.
At the moment, the Hearts v Motherwell and Rangers v Dundee United games remain on. This will give the home sides the opportunity to continue their good run of form. Hearts should further consolidate their place in the top 6 and Rangers could open up a 7 point lead at the top of the table for New Year.
Does this strengthen the argument for summer football?

well they used to have a winter break @ this time of year then certain clubs in SPL started talking SHITE saying they were losing money BOLLOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!
What action will be taken by the SPL against “the Killie Boys”, we’re all expecting “the Killie Boys” to give the huns every assistance this season, but to ALLOW this game to be abandoned for the sake of a few bags of rock salt is an outrage!!
“the Killie boys” have had days and days to put this right but astoundingly have failed to do so!
WHY???
The huns going into an OF game SEVEN points clear of Celtic maybe???
Ach! I’m just being silly now!
Why would “THE KILLIE BOYS”, as they’re so proud to call themselves in their wee ‘chant’ at their piggery, (although ‘up to your knees in cow shit and totties’ doesn’t have the same ring to it!) want to help the huns??
But hey! all this is irrelevant, THEY HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY, I’m at present waiting the full weight of the SPL & SFA falling heavily on their shoulders……………………………….I wont be holding my breath!!
Ps. they could have saved themselves alot of bother by saying there was a womens 10k race in Killwining!
Theyre notorious for over taxing the local constabulary!!
The more thing change the more they stay the same
Pps. I hope all at WKSFA had a very merry Christmas and have a rip roaring new year!!
ALL THE BEST!!
Cheers Max, best of the season to yourself as well.
Some strong opinions about Kilmarnock there, certainly no love lost between Killie and Celtic fans. Obviously a lot stems from the Tommy Burns move between the clubs and the attitude of Killie fans on the day Celtic won 4-0 but didnt win the league.
Then again, there are probably many reasons going back even further.
Its a strange one, surely the financial benefits of the game going ahead would have provided Kilmarnock with enough incentive to make the area surrounding the ground safe for fans.
Peter Lawell has certainly raised his anger at the postponement of this match.
It would be interesting to know what efforts were made by “the Killie Boys” to make their ‘footprint’ safe for supporters?
I would also like to know if these streets, (or indeed the entire town centre of Kilmarnock) have been closed to public use?
Or is this a local freak of weather only affecting Rugby Park, and it’s “footprint”, although leaving the playing surface miraculosly in a perfect condition!
God works in mysterious ways right enough!
I only have the best interest & welfare of the good people of Kilmarnock at heart.
I am 100% in agreement with max on this there was plenty time to make the area surrounding the ground safe.
Couple of points to be raised here
1 though certain clubs in SPL could not afford to have a winter break?
2 its about time SPL clubs worked together better between this balderdash today & 5% garbage by Celtic & Rangers for away tickets & only recently Dundee Utd recharging Rangers Fans know wonder our League is a joke!!!!!!!!!!
A lot of the problems is probably due to the large area just outside the ground.
Visitors to Rugby Park will know there is a gated entrance to two sides of the park, inside is the Hotel and a lot of space. It is probably this area which Kilmarnock FC have neglected to protect.
The streets around the ground area will have been looked after by the local council and the pitch will have been tended to by the groundstaff. However, with car parking facilities inside the ground area, a lot of fans walking through, police horses and all manner of television and emergency services vehicles using this area, it seems to be a massive oversight by Kilmarnock to not look after this area.
Still, we have learned a new term in “stadium footprint” so at least it hasn’t been a waste of an exercise.
Yes but it was Strongly rumoured on monday that the game might be postponed surely there was enough time between then & wednesday to sort this out??????
The way Peter Lawell has reacted certainly makes you think that Kilmarnock have not did everything within their power to make the game go ahead.
It may have been an oversight but when you watch Sky Sports News and see clubs in England hiring JCBs and pleading for volunteers to make the entry and exit points safe, it does grate to have this game postponed.
Re-”footprint”.
I heard the security guy outside CP the other week TRYING to explain to some ‘young socialist’ from the political wing of Celtic FC (or so they seem to think!!!), the STUC, being told in no uncertain manner that he needed the clubs permission to tout his Palistinian propoganda on CPs “footprint” (it was a first for me to), the surounding ground of the stadium owned by the club.
The young ‘intellectual’ made a total arse of himself and didn’t have a scoobie what the guy was telling him!
Even if you’d never heard the term before but heard it in the context in which it was being used, a moron would understand what was being said……………not this guy.
Although it was hilarious watching this leader of men (ha) behaving like a 3yr old who doesn’t want to go to bed, I must say it was also more than a wee bit embarrassing.
If this is the intellect of the young socialists rising through the ranks of the STUC, I truly fear for the working class man of tomorrow!
WIT A DIDDY!
A wee bit harsh there MAX (re footprint).
Maybe you can enlighten me (cos seriously I don’t know) is the footprint round CP actually owned by the club ? and where are the limits (heel/toes?).
Hopefully the security guy know that answer and was able to prevent the young protester making too much of an archie of himself?
On a personal note, thank goodness for young guys like that even if you don’t necessarly agree with their viewpoint.
Security guys at CP no doubt have their place too (but I won’t go into too much detail about that – I’m sure you know why).
