Celtic season cards frozen but fans give icy response
On-field failings still the bigger issue

The trend for football clubs at the moment is to freeze the current level of season book pricing.
The financial climate is still mired in doubt and difficulty and when you consider the rate of inflation, this move will be heralded by some as being a reduction in price in real terms.
What is also true is that the average price for an adult ticket for Scottish football is overpriced when compared to other forms of entertainment and the product that is being served up. When you look back to the players that Celtic, Rangers, Hibs and Hearts had a decade ago, the rate of decline and downsizing has been massive.
It hasn’t been matched with a genuine reduction in pricing though.
The Celtic board would have been given a massive wake-up call during the week with the horrifically low crowd for the AZ Alkmaar game. It was a bad PR move for the club but no doubt the financial penalties that would have arisen from not playing the game outweighed the bad publicity.
Celtic have tried to gain some extra publicity and give their fans increased opportunity to book their place at Celtic Park for every home game by offering a 10 month payment plan. This is a good move and one to be commended but the fact that the typical APR is set at 15.9% APR jars when compared to the Hibs offer, which offers a 10 month payment plan at an interest free rate.
Of course, that means watching Hibs and their fans gloating about being the first to wear the green and everything else fans that have never seen the Scottish Cup sing about! So, its swings and roundabouts on that deal! (Only joking Hibees, good work on that deal and yet another idea Celtic should be nicking from their Leith rivals.)
To provide some balance though, whilst the adult prices remain high, the lowest price kids seasons books are a fantastic deal. Season card deals for the youngest children are priced at £50 for the entire campaign, which works out as £2.63 per game.
That is tremendous value and the sort of thing that clubs need to do to ensure the younger generation continue to be brought along to the football. It also makes the buying decision for parents or families a bit easier to justify with the cost split between two or more people.
With the Celtic season cards on sale now, there will be some that will be buying right away but there will be others looking for a bit more hope for next season before committing.
We don’t expect Celtic to have announced their new manager before the deadline for season cards arrive so we don’t know what there will be for fans to pin their hopes but no matter the price or the pricing plan, many Hoops fans need to be convinced.
Do you feel your season ticket is fairly priced?

Maybe they should follow motherwells lead and give children a free season ticket with every adults ticket
That’s not something that Celtic are going to be able to do but fair play to Motherwell for doing that, John Boyle has tried to be quite innovative with a lot of their deals.
Not all of them worked but clubs like Motherwell do need to try everything they can to get punters along.
Both sides of the divide have an interesting conundrum regarding season ticket sales. Rangers deadline is May 7th, before any meeting take place with Alastair Johnston and the manager regarding contracts and possible player purchases. Fans will quite rightly be playing a wait and see game to try and find out what more is going on in the background.
Celtic are no different, the support appears rather split on the possible appointment of Lennon, who Ross County apart, has done a decent job. However there is a huge task at hand there with player turnaround, major surgery is required on the squad and Celtic cannot afford another failure like Mowbray’s reign was.
One cannot overlook the current financial climate either, there is still some dark times ahead with unemployment. 33% of Scotland’s workforce are employed in Public Services and should Labour lose power, there will be almighty cutbacks in these areas. People will quite rightly look after themselves and their families first and foremost.
And remember that’s three years inflation saved on Celtic Season ticket prices.
The inflation saving was mentioned in the article Max.
The thing is – this is pretty much as you can expect clubs to do so it’s not a dig at Celtic – with the season book revenue being the major source of income, the club can hardly cut it.
The way the world is at the moment – there are people who cant afford season books and as Quagmire says, they have got more important things to consider and worry about it than paying up front for football matches.
For those that can afford it, the price or the payment method isnt really the key issue, it will be the quality and entertainment being served up.
1 point the season book prices for kids @ Celtic are good value 50pounds i think?
Yep…the youngest kids prices are £50 – which is brilliant value – £2 odd a game, you cant argue with that value.
No doubt Celtic hope to get the spin-off in building a future fanbase and the matchday merchandise and catering outlets. However, the price for the kids cannot be argued with.
thats only 130,000 kids each week to pay robbie keanes wages
minus a zero
you cant make that statement as you dont know what his wages are stick to facts.
