Should Celtic and Rangers make Mr Jackson an Outkast?

by WeKnowSFA

In a jingle jangle morning he’ll be spouting untruths

This may be news to some of you but Celtic and Rangers fans don’t always get on. For one reason or another, they are at each others throats and it gets a bit tiring at times. WeKnowSFA decided to do something about it, so we wrote a letter to Jim’ll Fix It. He told us to get lost as he didn’t do that sort of thing anymore but he did tell us of a man who may be able to help.

Jingle jangle jewellery jewellery, its Keith Jackson of the Record.

Keith Jackson - Daily Record Journalist

Aaah, Keefy, the idiot’s idiot who likes to mix it with the big boys. Remember the time he threatened to sue John Collins? Who can forget the national laughter epidemic when he rebuked Graham Spiers by telling him to “Jog on Britney” – genius, bet the boys in the pub had a great laugh about that.

Speaking of which, this reminds us of a few years back when a few of the WeKnowSFA team happened to be in Jam on Pollokshaws Road, Shawlands. It was a post-match Saturday drink and the Edinburgh Derby was on television. If you haven’t been to Jam, the toilets were upstairs, which wasn’t a problem for the majority of the patrons but Mr Jackson decided he would use the Disabled toilets on the ground floor.

With jingle jangle jewellery sound-tracking his every step, it was hard to ignore the writer taking advantage of the downstairs facilities. By the second or third time, Jackson seemed rather pleased with himself and mocked his use of the lower toilets by putting on a severe limp. The smile drained from his face rather sharpish when a member of staff told him to use the upstairs toilet like every other punter, jog upstairs Keefy!

WeKnowSFA Blog Awards

Well, in the past week Mr Jackson has came up with two stories that have had the main players denying the story in far stronger terms that usually follows the typical tabloid guff. He has also had Celtic and Rangers fans thinking that this guy is a bit of a buffoon.

So well done Mr Jackson, you have managed to bring these fans together and a role at the UN awaits. Go celebrate by having a breakfast of coffee and naan (a Stewart Lee joke if it makes no sense to you!)

Last week, Jackson, alongside Colin Duncan, broke the news that Lloyds Bank had “booted an £18m rescue package to buy out crisis club Rangers”

Dave King was at the heart of the consortium with Paul Murray and two un-named investors.

If it wasn’t enough that SARS quickly announced their surprise at the ability of King to be involved in such a deal, Dave King, mindful of the rules surrounding takeovers of companies, also intimated to the Stock Exchange that he was not involved with the deal.

Posturing by King or an outright denial?

Who knows, but it definitely looks as though Jackson took a flier on a story. We can all be guilty of that but given it is Jackson’s full-time job, you would expect it to be a bit better researched than most of the half-baked theories you get on the internet.

So, 0 for 1 for Jackson with Rangers, it was probably worth running with a Celtic story.

When you consider the amount of stories that are printed every day about players and teams, it takes something special for a club to quickly release a statement condemning a newspaper article.

The Daily Record headline ran “Celtic tell Scott Brown he has no future at club” and there are a number of issues in the article which makes you think that it is not entirely true. Mind you, the most questionable issue was that “Brown had been a key player for Mowbray in the manager’s first few months”

You will probably find a great number of Celtic fans who would argue with that issue.

Celtic, for once, swung into action, with Tony Mowbray and Scott Brown issuing statements to the clubs website;
Mowbrays initial remarks said;

“The story is absolute nonsense. I never told Scott Brown that I want him to leave the club. Scott is a huge player for Celtic and absolutely part of the future plans of this club.”

Scott Brown also said;

“Obviously I am very disappointed with this article as there is no foundation to it. I have worked with the manager for some time and have a very good relationship with him.”

In a week when the Celtic assistant manager has been castigated for suggesting every player has their price, it shouldn’t be taken for granted that Scott Brown will be at Celtic for a substantial amount of time.

There is a rebuilding process going on at Celtic Park and if a sizable bid comes in, the player may well be off. However, with quotes attributed to the main people in the story, this statement has a lot more to believe in than the one what was offered by the Record.

This wasn’t the end of the matter though, with the Record responding, although their website did not offer any journalist name attached to the “Celtic star Scott Brown still believes he’s set for exit despite Celtic denial” story.

Celtic denial? There was also a Scott Brown denial or does that not count?

Don’t get us wrong, Scott Brown seems a likable and funny chap and his performances for Scotland have remained top class but whether he has the ability to deal with the media properly on major stories is possibly up for debate.

His brilliant interview from his time at Hibs regarding an alleged player revolt against John Collins was the stuff of legend, with Brown either a genius or…well, not quite a genius!

So the Record believes in their story, mind you, they believed in their “THUGS AND THIEVES” story as well.

Time will tell who is right but Keith really needs to be on the money with this one in order to salvage his reputation….haha, see, it is really easy to tell lies, even we’ve just done it!

Still, Celtic will have a new home kit next season and many fans cannot wait until Keith Jackson delivers the exclusive unveiling of the new kit.

FFS its simple dont buy the daily record anybody who buys this rag needs treatment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Krys

There’s this new fangled invention that makes these “Opinionpapers” (news, my arse) totally obsolete. It’s called “THE INTERNET”. A place where you can not only find out the truth from the football clubs involved, find up to date (not a day old) news on free places like the BBC Web Site, but also find much more informed opinions by people who don’t even get paid for the privilege. Message boards and blogs and fan web sites.

So, Jog on Keef, and take the rest of your obsolete media with you. Your time has come.

  • albhoy

I’m stil not sure about this one. Brown and keech jackson have a pretty good relationship from what i’m led to believe. Who knows, Brown could be the big mouth thats leaking stories from lennoxtown and celtic park!!!

  • WeKnowSFA

Keech is supposedly well in with Brown and McDonald at Celtic and Thomson of Rangers. Think he may also be tight with Willie McKay (the agent) as well.

It was more just a gentle ribbing of two big rebuttals offered out to Keech in the past week. That and he is a bit of a cartoon character.

He made his name because of an exclusive (an almighty big exclusive) he got wind of through a family member and their work position.

Brown will likely go in the summer….we await Keech coming back with the “I told yese” when it does….mind you – why is he still writing? Surely with all the cash for gold deals he could have retired to a sun-kissed island.

And to continue the musical puns in the article…as its a Jackson Brown story….what Jamaica say you will of that?

  • Peter

are celtic/WKSFA author trying to bring rangers fans into this to help their cause against wacko and the rhecord? no chance, i believe him over celtic every day of the week, and lets not forget, he is IS very good friends with scott brown! why are celtic fans so easily offended? he was on a show on STV last week slabbering all about celtic, he couldnt praise you lot enough! he certainly doesnt like Rangers, but we dont care. we know not to buy the papers and a huge number of us dont. its simple really.

  • Peter

    alboy, caldwell was the mole

  • albhoy

I’m all for the ribbing of this clown (jangle). Sometimes i used too tune into the real radio phone in crap , and he was priceless. I suppose i’m just concerned that after such a strenuous denial by the club, they are left with egg on thier face if theres any truth at all that brown o.k’d the story. Saying that i hope Celtic sue the arse off the daily rectum, putting the clown at the centre of the article and the rest of the circus out of a job!!!!!!

  • WeKnowSFA

A cause…crikey, we just don’t rate Keith Jackson, is that a cause??

Twice in a week Jackson has had his stories slated by the people involved – a Rangers story and a Celtic story.

Jackson is very good friends with Brown….however, he is also very good friends with Kevin Thomson and is the journalist for many of Thommo’s comments in the press.

You have to love the fact that both sets of fans have pet names for the Record – Im sure they’ll consider they are doing something right if they are annoying both sets of fans!

  • albhoy

I’m not so sure about that Peter. Although he liked the sound of his own voice, in my opinion he’s not the type for that stuff, unless you know differently? Theres plenty of stories about moles going about. On CQN someones blaming mcdonald, also heard robson was the one. One thing we are sure of though is brown’s relationship with bo jangles. maybe putting 2 and 2 and coming up with 5 but …….

  • Peter

we?, thats good, what i thought. we dont care if he slates us, everyone in the press slates rangers, thats why the fans ignore them, its normally good reading for celtic fans.

i know hes very good friends with tommo, who cares? the 3 of them are good friends, brown knows hes joined the wrong club, he chose money instead of following his heart to rangers. it wouldnt be the first time.

pet names? ive always known it as the daily rHecord

  • Peter

yes i know differently, the mhedia knew caldwell had a big mouth, he was/is also good friends with some of them. he was 1 of the major leaks, lets face not many of your current squad can speak english!! lol wee joke, dont get offended

mcdonald is another who is daft enough to talk, he has fallen out with mogga so, you never know. i also know mcgready has friends in the media also obviously and he seems the type to be a blether privatly.

peter liewell has an excellent relationship with the scottish mhedia and i think celtic fans should chill out, relax and let it run its course, instead of running with vendettas and conspiracies and the offended tag.

    ;-)

  • albhoy

I understand what your saying, plenty of players have friends in the media that come in handy when new contracts or moves are on the cards. Today though the rectum have stood by thier story, stating that Brown gave it the thumbs up, yet on our official website Brown denied this. No paranoia or vendettas here, just after the truth!

  • Peter

i already said, due to brown and wackos very close relationship i tend to believe wacko, it wouldnt be the first time celtic fc have made a mistake or not been totally truthful, likewise the rhecord right enough, but do you think wacko would put his friendship with scott in jeopardy just to write an article, i dont think he would.

i dont think its a big story and im very surprised how many celtic fans are worried about losing him, hes so over rated its not true, i dont think hes missed in your team, hes a scottish gravesen, on slightly less money!

ki looks a player and crosas is getting more game time, are you guys keeping n’guemo? zhi there too, theres plenty options, and all better than brooninho in my eyes anyway. i hope he stays and goes straight back into your team! would do us a favour.

wackos stood by his story cause its the truth.

  • davy

peter, as usual as a rangers fan you revert to type with racist comments. aye, it’s only banter.

  • albhoy

I think your missing the point, i can only speak for myself, but i wouldnt miss him and would gladly let him go for a reasonable fee.The reason its become a big story for us is the way the club have denied it. Things are written in the press all the time and we know its guff. If celtic signed every player the rags linked them too we would have a squad of 200 players !!!! This is why its so strange the club did what they have, regardless of what player was involved. You stated you believe jangle and thats fine, it just seems he’s had a quote of sorts and ran with it IMO.

  • Peter

language and dialect has nothing to do with racism you easily offended fool!!!!! you on the other hand, typify the stereotypical celtic fan with your paranoia and offended mind. im sure albhoy is as embarrassed for you as i am, list most sane normal people will be. grow up son and take those green specs off, its only a game ;-)

  • Peter

albhoy your club deny absolutely everything negative written about you. that is no surprise at all.

i think hes had a long conversation with brooninho, hes got a story and he ran with it, no biggy.

you should be looking closer to home for the liar in my eyes.

surely you enjoy the mhedia linking you with pavlyuchenko, robbie keane, seedorf, beckham and the like??? they love it, they live in the same fantasy land some of your fellow fans live in.

you seem to be pretty level headed just a tad confused.

the rhecord today have confirmed the story was true, if they were facing legal action and they were lying, there is no way they would have done this. they obviosuly have proof, and its nothing to do with fans what that proof is.

its easy for celtic to deny it, thats what they do, unless it suits them of course.

  • albhoy

You say the record confirmed the story was true yet they have no quotes from what i can see, only the word of a laughingstock of a reporter. It appears to me they are trying to muddy the waters a bit. The cub deny plenty of things i agree , but when it comes to footballing matters thats usual left to the manager at a press confrence, why not so in this instance? it doesnt bother me about what players we are being linked too, its just good to sign and be linked with players in general, lol!!!!

  • jazrfc

if its untrue sue him i doubt if they will though

  • jazrfc

plus wee scot was brought up in a right bluenose family he wants out

  • Peter

you very rarely get quotes in the rhags, thats why they are so poor and unreliable. me believing this story only comes from the relationship between journo and brooninho.

why would they want to muddy the waters? shug the celtic man keevins will sort this out in time, he will be the middle man i have no doubt. lets see what him and peter mcguire say on superscoreboard tonight.

the daily rhecord has been very good for celtic in last 10 years with some ridiculously OTT coverage.

i wouldnt know what its like to sign players, i have forgotten what its like! lol

  • Peter

jaz we all know broons a bluenose, hes made a huge mistake going to the wrong club, no disrespect to celtic.

  • albhoy

Exactly, non stories with no quotes are on the back pages all the time , why now such a big denial? youve got to be yanking my chain when you say the daily rectum has given us some great press over the years .Aye right, “thugs and thieves” headlines , cracked club crests after a pre season defeat. Most of the scottish press have been murrays poodles for years but this particular rag more than most. p.s i dont listen to radio snide so i wont know what hugh “bonkers” keevins or his mate have to say about it (not that i care what they cranks have to say)

  • Peter

thugs n thieves was part true and was 1 story over the 10 year period im talking about. at no point have the mhedia ever been lapdogs for murray, he lost his bottle years ago and he does not have as many friends in the mhedia as celtic fans think he has. just look at the ridiculous stories regarding Rangers FC every day. we’re an easy target, liewell has martin bain in his pocket, your PR machine always comes out on top against us, my club is being run by a man who doesnt want to be there and no longer has the heart for the fight and a man who would be more suited to working as a travel agent. were so lucky we have Walter Smith, sure hes wasted millions but we are champions. im surprised you dont like the celtic minded Radio Snyde.

  • albhoy

We will just need to agree to disagree. Im away for my tea, its been an enjoyable debate!!!

  • Peter

Me too, im cooking tonight. All the best ;-)

  • Someone mention my name?

    Hugh Keevins

  • tony

Broons a bluenose? He doesn’t support ra rankers so what could that statement possibly mean?
BTW. The daily rectum is also universally known as the daily ranger or more appropriately the daily ranker. The only peepel who don’t refer to it as such are fans of rainjurssh, and this is because the skinteroonies live in a wee 17th century world of their own down the San Giro Bigot Dome way.

  • Liverpool Bears

Oh God Anthony, i feel really sorry for you, i blame sectarian schools. So full of anger and hatred. Deny and deflect son, deny and delfect. Celtic fans are sounding more and more desperate as the days go on. Whats it like in the shadow? We welcome the chase.

  • Feed The Bear

    “Broons a Bluenose”?
    Nurse!!

  • jazrfc

broons a rangers fan his faither was a season ticket holder as his uncles are theyr also in my lodge

  • tony

Jaz. If they’re in your lodge are they beavers or what?
Liverpool bear. Save your sorrow for yourself. Youse arra peepel from the darkside living in the past. I blame sectarian employment policies from your illustrious tradition at Crimewatch FC or Scotland’s Shame if you prefer.
To paraphrase a previous rankers manager….
“100 plus years of unsurpassed bigotry”.

  • Joe

Changing history to suite yourselves again i see tony tut tut your not paraphrasing, your lying!! small question, if the mhedia is so against celtic, why was there such a cover up of the riots in greenock when they scraped by morton in the cup? several arrests, celtic fans rioting in the streets, oh and let me give you a direct quote from one of your ex chairman “celtic minded means catholic bigot” make of that what you will! if you know your history indeed.decent article WKSFA, im not sure about it, someone is lying. Im not sure Jackson is as good now as he once was, most journalists in Scotland are rotten and some have been paid off, some have yet to lose their jobs. It looks to me like Scott Brown doesnt want to be there and is trying to work a way out, i have no doubts Celtic forced the player to deny the story just like they forced Super Mo to wear the green n grey hoops way back years ago. Just my wee tupins worth. fail fail tony pal

  • tony

LB ” We welcome the chase” You should be used to it this century since your team have spent most of it chasing Celtic.
Back to your own wee dream world now. Nighty Night!

  • WeKnowSFA

Joe, thanks for that – we’ll sidestep the religion and talk of battles, leave that for the readers to debate – and yes, there is definitely at least one party in this charade at the “madam”, if not numerous or all.

It can be seen why it benefits Celtic to have Brown off the books (money, a player who has not fulfilled expectations, lowering the wage bill)
It can be seen why it benefits Brown to engineer a move away (a fresh start, out of the Glasgow goldfish bowl, a chance to play in his preferred style and nature, away from a fanbase that has some folk already written him off)
And the Record sells papers and gets people talking.

Or….someone could be talking rubbish and some of the parties do want Brown to remain at Celtic Park.

We dont know…nor do we pretend to know…we just felt it had been an interesting week for Keith Jackson and we never tire of telling the Jam story!!

Again, thanks for all the debate guys….we will hopefully have one topic that doesnt descend into the usual Glasgow big two nonsense…but hey, it was going on long before we got going, its not our fault!

    Cheers.

  • Quagmire

Regarding the £18M bid story, Jackson took a flier and like most ‘journalists’ these day’s, lifted most of his story from message boards. The same message boards that his gang are forever slating I may add! With the takeover rules regarding the stock market, this was always going to be denied by those involved. The ‘un-official’ bid may have put to Lloyds and it may have been around the figure quoted, what ‘journalists’ like Jackson are trying to achieve is to be the one that can say ‘we told on the 19th Jan blah blah blah when it eventually happens, like any of us even care!

Regarding the Brown story, something just doesn’t quite add up here. Jackson has staked his ‘reputation’ (there’s a laugh) on this being true, he even states that the story was read back to Brown before he printed it, so someone is lying. With such a strong rebuttal from Celtic and the threat of legal action, I expected the Record to back down, not a bit of it though. They are standing by their claims. Now if Celtic are true to their word, we should see them come back out against Jackson and his employers and set the date for the court battle, I also expect sanctions to be placed against their paper for reporting on their games, interviews etc. Question is will it happen, or will Celtic now remain quiet? I look forward to the next move as something is not right here. One other angle of this story that has been missed so far, Willie McKay. Former agent of Brown, he still holds an interest in the player should he be sold, he is also good pals with Jackson and he cares not a jot who he implicates, tramples on or exposes in order to make a Dollar.

Some of you may recall, I stated that Celtic would be disappointed that both Brown and McDonald had suffered injuries that has left them out for the January window, I firmly believe that one or both, would’ve been sanctioned had suitable bids come in. Mowbray doesn’t rate McDonald, leaving him out against Rangers recently cost him the victory that he so desperately needed, Brown, before his injury, would still attract a £4-5M fee and losing the big wages would also benefit Celtic, either would’ve allowed Celtic to spend a bit more to satisfy Mowbray in this window, a window in which he has already stated he would like to attract as many as 10 players, pre-season stuff really! I can’t see either leave in this window now and it remains to be seen if Celtic rlease the big money that Mowbray needs to bring in this ‘blue chip’ signing that we constantly hear about from Lawell. If it happens, expect McGeady to be off in the summer, the board will not allow Celtic to fall into debt, especially if the Champions League money is missing two years in a row.

Finally, as for the comic that is the Daily Record, Rangers fans have been boycotting this rag for over a decade now, I would list numerous examples but I haven’t the time or energy. Suffice to say they are known as the ‘Daily Rebel’ in bluenose circles.

  • jazrfc

tony chasing all century lol compare the titles.com in your head your in front just your head.ps another title looming i love it .

  • tony

Jaz. I would comment if I knew what language that was. Some form of orcish I presume?

  • jazrfc

pure scottish tony my bhoy .what i said was if we were chasing how come we have much more titles added to that we are world record holders for league titles won . and maybe adding to them titles this year the futures bright as they say.
