Celtic and Rangers to see bids from Owen Coyle?

Bolton and Burnley agree compensation for Coyle

The news that Bolton Wanderers and Burnley have agreed compensation for Owen Coyle means that Coyle is likely to become the new boss at the Reebok.

Coyle had a terrific career in Scotland and was a highly regarded manager at McDiarmid Park with St Johnstone before he went down south to Burnley. Coyle was also linked to the Celtic post in the summer and if you believe the rumours, he was the number one target for Celtic’s PLC.

The consensus for Coyle staying with Burnley appeared to focus on the limited transfer budget that would be made available to him but this has not been substantiated.

Regardless, it appears that Coyle finds the Bolton Wanderers post to be more attractive at this current moment than the Burnley job and maybe even the Celtic job.

What could be of particular relevance is the fact that Coyle has quite commonly shopped in Scotland. Steven Fletcher of Hibs has proven to be a tremendous signing for Burnley so far and Coyle has picked up other Scottish stars.

You would think that one of the reasons for Coyle switching clubs would be a bigger budget, which could mean he may move for some of the more highly rated SPL players.

Bolton have shipped the most amount of goals at home in the English Premier League this season so far, so could Coyle be looking to bolster the defence?

The main defenders being linked with moves are Madjid Bougherra from Rangers and the Celtic duo of Gary Caldwell and Stephen McManus. Coyle is leaving one Caldwell behind in his move so he may not be in a rush to hook up with another but any of these players could be on Coyle’s horizon.

For the midfield, Steven Davis would likely be the most attractive player who would move if the price was right.

And if you are looking to find a goalscorer in the SPL, Kris Boyd is the man in demand, with Middlesbrough and Birmingham said to be interested in the Rangers hit-man.

Another option could be Scott McDonald who has a pedigree of scoring against top clubs like Manchester United, AC Milan and Rangers, which may make him a more attractive purchase for Coyle.

If Coyle heads to the Reebok, will any Scottish players join him there?
