Celtic and Nike stick with green and white hoops for new kit

A bold yet wise choice for Celtic

Rangers may have been quicker off the mark in announcing their manager for next season and in officially releasing their new kit but that is not to say there is any shame in Celtic being behind at this moment in time.

Not when the club has just had the official press release for their new Nike home kit. Critics of Celtic (and yes there are some) point to the fact that the club are hampered by the green and white hoops and the fact that any changes to the kit will be primarily cosmetic.

In some eyes, this can be seen as a hindrance but equally, to many it is a strong point of the kit and the club.

This sneaky shot has been uploaded to Twitter..we’ll leave their name off just in case they get into bother but if its you and you want your props, let us know!

The heavy use of Ki Sung Yueng in the promotional shots would maybe suggest the club still has an eye on the foreign markets.

The fact that both clubs have launched their kit around the same time would possibly suggest that contractual issues, either with the outgoing Carling or the incoming Tennent’s, have been the reason behind the lack of announcements or official promotion to this point.

Would we be stretching the point to suggest a similar situation may be behind the lack of appointment at Celtic Park with regards the manager’s hot-seat? With ex-boss Tony Mowbray still having contractual issues to resolve, it may be that no official confirmation will be forthcoming until these issues are resolved.

The next Celtic manager may know he is getting the job and may be quietly working away on targets and tactics for the season ahead.

On an entirely unrelated topic, Celtic have announced the Q&A road-shows featuring Peter Lawwell and Neil Lennon have been extended into July when the pair will be visiting Dublin and Lurgan in Ireland.

Celtic are also set to release a new away kit this season with the bumblebee away kit moving to the team’s third choice strip. It may not be the end of this top though, especially if the rumours about the new Celtic away kit are true.

This hasn’t been confirmed but the talk has been of a lime-green kit most famously worn at the climax of the 1985/86 season. Celtic had to go to St Mirren and win by at least three clear goals and hope that hearts, on an almighty unbeaten run, lost at Dens Park. Celtic hit five and Hearts succumbed to two late Albert Kidd goals to wrap up another league title for Celtic.

If the new away kit is worn in another last day title decider in Celtic’s favour, its place in the history of the club will be guaranteed. However, you just don’t know, maybe the bumblebee kit will be worn one last time to give the Celtic manager, whoever it may be, a thrilling climax to their debut season in charge at the club.

What do you think of the new Celtic kit?
