Celtic to face Manchester United in Toronto

Now that the season is winding to a close, the pre-season fixtures are starting to be announced. We are no closer to knowing who the next Celtic manager will be but Celtic fans can start working out where they want to be to see the bhoys in the heady days of the summer.
It has already been announced that Celtic will be taking part in the Emirates tournament, facing Lyon and Arsenal but before that, they will already be taking on one of the big English clubs. It is looking likely that Manchester United will finish second in the English Premier League but the Old Trafford club still have an outside chance of winning the league.
Celtic and Manchester United are set to clash in Toronto on July 16th at the Rogers Centre.
It will not be a game that matches the intensity of the Champions League matches between the two clubs but it is an excellent opportunity for ex-pat and foreign fans to see their heroes. Manchester United are one of the leaders in building a foreign fanbase but it has to be said, Celtic are not too far behind.
It is a source of annoyance or frustration for many Celtic fans that Peter Lawell and the PLC board seem so intent on touring the world to play these games but it has to be done. The money given to Celtic in the TV deal is so miniscule compared to clubs in the major leagues, they have to do everything to maximise their income.
Then again, you can guarantee there will be moans about this trip, saying that the team should stay at home to allow the manager to work fully with his players away from any distractions.
A trip across the Atlantic didn’t do the Celtic squad any harm in the summer of 1966.
Anyways, it will be game of many subs and no doubt slower paced football but for those that only get the chance to see Celtic on television or on the internet, this game provides an excellent opportunity to see their heroes.
