Celtic and Brown: Ex-men in black opinions

Dermot Gallagher shows up Dougal

You all know by know that WeKnowSFA highly respects Stuart Dougal and eagerly await his column every week.

Oh wait, no we don’t, he is an arse of a human being and an auditor of any note would take a look at his columns and see he was unfit for duty, if not a little unhinged.

Another day, another dollar for Dougal with his witterings:

So let’s start with the big one, Brown’s red card. When I first saw it I felt it was two players coming together and, to be honest, it was all a bit of handbags. Then Kyle Lafferty went down and I did find myself thinking “not again”. But Brown put his head towards Lafferty in a butting motion. That’s violent conduct. That’s a red card.

It doesn’t matter whether Brown struck him in the face or not – in fact he didn’t. He pushed his head towards an opponent and that is giving any referee a decision to make. It was an illegal action and therefore had to go.

Celtic fans felt it was harsh and that a booking was all their player deserved. But what I would say is that Celtic supporters should look at Brown who was wearing the captain’s armband. What was he thinking about?

So another dig at a player and an overlooking of Kyle Lafferty’s role in all of this, all in a mornings work for Dougal.

However, with regards to Brown, should it have been a red card? Was Dougal right in his assertion?

He should know more than us, after all, we were never a grade one referee. Grade A rocket we wouldn’t argue with but never a grade one ref.

Dermot Gallagher was though and he had a few choice things to say about the red card award to Scott Brown. And no offence but Dermot Gallagher’s opinion carries a lot more weight than Stuart Dougal’s ever would.

Video footage of Gallagher’s appearance on Sky Sports News (sorry guys, no Georgie, Millie or Charlotte close-ups involved) can be found here:

Gallagher is adamant that it was not worth a red card and that the appeal should be successful. That remains to be seen.

Another thing that Gallagher talked about (not on video) was of the great game that Mike Dean had during the Chelsea versus Manchester City game and he was spot on. That was a tremendous refereeing performance throughout the 90 minutes in a match which had a lot of baggage surrounding it.

Oh to see a refereeing performance like that in Scotland….or at least hear the opinion of an ex-referee without an agenda, the sort of thing that will never happen here.

Scott Browns stupidity should not be overlooked in this incident, only the day before he was quoted as saying he has matured and wont allow people to chastise him for silly actions on a football pitch. Lasted a while eh?

He headbutted Lafferty in the mid drift, why? It was stupid and irresponsible and not actions you would like to associate with the Captain of a club of Celtics size. He dropped his manager and his team in it and killed off any chance Celtic had of winning the game.

Quagmire, we questioned Scott Brown in the match report – you cant get away from the fact that he stupidly got involved and gave the ref a decision to make.

Brown has been a liability for the majority of his Celtic career.

There are plenty of other questions about the red card award but Scott Brown shouldn’t be given any sympathy.

  • WeKnowSFA

We do have an issue with Dougal’s continual bleating and questioning of players.

He comes out “boohooing” and saying refs should be above question but then puts the boot into players at every opportunity, he is a petty and pathetic little man.

It is ironic that if any of his columns were being audited they would be flagged up as being unstable and questionable.

thang god dougal has retired as we have enough numpties in black

  • Fergusgump

What about the fact that these former “Referees” are now speaking out of turn and is George Peat not appalled at THIS.
The point I’m trying to make is the fact that Celtic submitted an appeal 2 hours after the game and any comments by this guys are surely putting an influence on the outcome. Or is it only Celtic that PEAT and his cohorts get angry with? We need to oust these guys and place gagging orders on former referees till the match is time barred for appeals.

  • is it me or were celtic playing all of the match with 10 men did mcgeady get paid appearance money if so he should be charged for gaining money on false pretence

  • WeKnowSFA

Aiden McGeady, not for the first time at Ibrox, was a virtual bystander.

Tony Mowbray later said the player had been ill all week.

Which means you have to question why Mobwray picked him, especially when there was fitness doubts over Keane.

The simple route for a Celtic/Rangers game is foreign refs they did it in the old home internationals between Scotland/England would solve a lot of problems & stop the daft theories going around plus let not kid ourselves the refs are not good enough in this country.

  • Quagmire

Let’s be honest, it’s a thankless task being a referee in this game, especially the likes of yesterday’s match when so much is at stake. Would foreign refs or English ref’s be the answer? Suppose there is only one way to find out and trial it, I think we would still have reason to find faults with their performances though.

Broonaldo stuck the head on Lafferty, straight red. It doesn’t matter how hard it was, straight red.

  • jazrfc

what about the edu penalty . broons red card was soft but putting his head in an aggresive motion is defo a red . the ref had to much pressure on him brought on by celtic ,its bad enough normaly but a lot more was added . so all in all he done not bad

  • WeKnowSFA

    What about the Kamara penalty?

The ref was terribly inconsistent, booking a player for one thing, not booking others for the same deal.

  • jazrfc

    wksfa deep breaths

  • WeKnowSFA

    ;-)

Don’t you worry about us Jaz…thank goodness for international football though!!

  • Mozza

Accept the issue that should be concerning you – Rangers are far better than Celtic.

  • Is it not a red card offense to raise your hands to a player? If so why wasn’t Lafferty sent off for slapping Brown around the head and Thomson for doing the same to Keane after only a few minutes. And kicking a player off the ball (David Weir), is that not a red?

  • scooter

Watched the “Kamara penalty” incident again, no chance that is a penalty, absolutely no chance

Great thing now is we have driven a losers attitude into the brains of most Celtic fans and now it seems their board also. Losers blame all around, winners knuckle down and battle to win championships & cups, I know which side I am glad to be on.

2 in a row, its just too easy

  • WeKnowSFA

Scooter, we couldn’t recall the Kamara penalty from the game but it was getting bandied about…as the day goes on, more and more stuff comes out…most of it tosh to be fair but it’s always worth checking back, you can miss bits from these games.

The Edu penalty challenge was weak, not saying they haven’t been given but whether it was a penalty, probably not.

Okay, straight up question…Rangers Uefa Cup season. Faltered at the end and moaned about everything, blaming the SPL for not helping and attacking Celtic and Lawell on numerous occasions.

What was your take on the Rangers stance then? Losers blaming all around or defiantly sticking up for themselves?

Not saying one or the other because obviously the circumstances are different but as per usual, it all comes down to your original stance.

Very true about the all too easy remark though, you cant help but think there are many inside Ibrox who cannot believe the easy ride they have been given to this title.

  • It still beggars belief how Kyle Lafferty continues to escape with blatant cheating in order to get a fellow professional sent off.

How many more times does this poor excuse for a footballer continue to be let off scot free with diving and trying to injure opposition players?

  • Quagmire

Neuro – What’s your take on Tony Mowbray stating to the 4th official about Bougherra not getting sent off after he fouled Keane?

Also what’s your opinion on Hinkel taking Edu out in the box, denying a clear goal scoring opportunity and his ordering off into the bargain?

  • jazrfc

big bougy winkin that was priceless
