Calderwood Tango the top with Scotland
Is the next Scottish boss currently without a club?
Well, as John Smeaton is the obvious candidate for the Scotland post, we are probably wasting time discussing other candidates but until the ex-baggage handlers coronation is confirmed, we may as well examine some other names in the frame.
First up is Jimmy Calderwood.
And okay, let’s get the obvious comment over and done with. The experience Calderwood has developed would help him deal with any difficult results or big defeats. After all, what Scottish manager has been tanned more than Jimmy?

Experience
The bookies favourite at the moment is Craig Levein. Calderwood’s Aberdeen team finished above United’s team for two seasons in a row. If Levein is such a front runner, surely Calderwood must be treated in the same manner?
Calderwood was shown the door for one cup shock too many but his record in getting Dunfemline to cup finals indicates Calderwood has the ability to get cup results. Levein has made his name in pushing Celtic and Rangers all the way and unlucky cup defeats. The amount of defeats to teams like Hamilton is often glossed over when it comes to his reputation.
Calderwood has a reputation that is easily the equal, if not better, than the bookies front-runner.
Punching above his weight.
Okay, thats a lot of weight to punch above but in a football sense, Calderwood can do a lot with limited players. This is exactly what a Scotland manager needs to be able to do.
World Cup 2014 is held in Brazil
“So Jimmy, do you fancy a paid for trip to Brazil, for at least a fortnight, maybe a month if you play your cards right at the height of Brazil’s summer?”
Does this sound like the sort of offer Calderwood would turn down? Never mind Scotland, he would manage England if this was the sort of prize on offer.
Okay, Aberdeen were dumped out of Cups by Queens Park and Queen of the South (lets leave the obvious gags, we’re not morons like Tam Cowan) but cup shocks aren’t a surprise to the Tartan Army anymore.
If we have learned anything from Ally McLeod – it’s better to be at a tournament and be shocked than to be sat at home with a 24 pack of Stella and a seething hatred of England.
Its not all great for Jimmy Calderwood and his Scotland hopes.
After the Burley fiasco, Terry Butcher as an assistant was clearly a disaster and another foreign yet staunch Rangers man is not what we need to be the right hand for the country again. Then again…..Jimmy Hill on the coaching staff would be preferable to Sandy Clark coming on board.
So Jimmy C – ditch your right hand man, get someone a little more pro Tartan Army on side and get that tanning booth set up in Hampden.
Vote for Jimmy Calderwood – he is better than Jim Jeffries.
