Can Boyd finally score for Rangers at Celtic Park?
One thing the striker lacks from Rangers career

Now…before the complaints start, we are not saying this is the last time Kris Boyd will play for Rangers at Celtic Park. Nor are we saying that he is for the off this summer.
The news of the Ellis bid arising again is not only good timing to arrive before the season book renewals, it should also give Rangers an extra spring in their step when they head along to Celtic Park tonight, with hope a buyover taking place.
Not that they’ll need any encouragement, this is billed to be a scene of a party, much like the 90s games when Rangers faced Celtic long after the league was sewn up…or just waiting to be confirmed. With Walter Smith presiding over it all again, there will definitely be a sense of déjà vu for those in blue...and those in green and white.
So, that’s the off-field stuff, can Kris Boyd net at Celtic Park tonight?
The only goal that Boyd has scored against Celtic came in a post-split game when the league was already won by Celtic so that may be in the strikers favour for weighing up if he will score tonight.
Tonight is not a crucial match for either team, yes both sets of players are talking it up and the fans will be their usual self but in the greater scheme of things, this should not be an occasion to match the normal ferocity of Celtic v Rangers games.
For all that he brings goals to his team, even Kris Boyd’s biggest fan would have to say he has been a let down on the big occasions, so with tonight not being such a big occasion, will he be more likely to score?
It’s Boyd’s continual goals against the lesser lights that provide Rangers with the platform to win titles so that is no major criticism of the striker but every player wants to turn it on in the big games. For a diehard Rangers man like Boyd is his inability to boast of numerous goals against his clubs biggest rivals must gnaw away at him, even with all the medals he has picked up in recent years.
If Boyd goes in the summer, tonight represents his last chance, as far as we all know, to net for his beloved team against their bitter rivals. With the Celtic defence changing on a game by game basis, there may not be a better opportunity for Boyd to break his Celtic Park duck.
There may also never be another opportunity.
Do you think Boyd will score tonight?

lol, probably not, hes a goal machine who lacks most basics to be called a quality “football” player, he is easy to mark for ANY half decent centre half and has no pace to take him away from quick and experienced defenders. im looking forward to a Rangers strikeforce next season without him, a strikeforce with pace, skill and guile. Not that Walter will give us that of course!
He wont be missed, Rangers strikers will ALWAYS scoe goals, whoever they are, maybe not as many as Kris did but someone else will no doubt contribute alot more to the team as a whole. When we need goals v the top 6 teams and in Europe more often than not hes posted missing, hes been rotten since December and has not deserved to start the games he has while his future was in doubt. I know hes leaving, he knows hes leaving, if Walter doesnt know hes leaving then hes not doing his job right!
im sick of my fellow Bears saying sell this player, save on that players wages just so we can keep Boyd, its embarassing, in my opinion he will not be missed. When hes not playing, we are more fluid, we try harder, we look more dangergous and we pose a bigger threat, he slows us down, he breaks up play and doesnt cause better defenders any problems.
The lack of service from midfield to our strikeforce since Walters been back probably hasnt helped Kris, it sure hasnt helped any other strikers, it amazing the amount of goals our strikers score with so much dross and players out of position in our midfield.
Ive noticed Kenny Miller recently getting very annoyed with team mates who cannot create chances for our strikers, he cant be the only attacker upset at the lack of service but while our team has to play negative to help players like McCulloch and Weir then we will never be a creative force, i said months ago when Celtic get their act together they will be a better team than us, and i think it will be proved tonight, i think we will get beat. Expect usual turgid boring negative Rangers performance tonight, thats what we do.
Next year we will have to be so much better.
In saying all that, all we need is 2 REAL, PROPER wide men like McGready, like Maloney, like Conway and we would be some team, unstoppable in Scotland, but we dont have them, we dont have anything like those wingers, do we Walter?
i sound so negative, im not, im just a realist. Its boring watching Rangers especially with guys like Boyd, McCulloch, Weir etc etc in the team, zero skill factor, zero entertainment value. Dross.
Sadly i predict 3-0 Celtic tonight, i hope i am soooo wrong and we win, i just dont see where our goals will come from, especially at Parkhead.
Meaningless game, doesnt matter
First time in 15 years an old firm game has meant nothing, in a way i hope we lose and it convinces celtic to give Lennon the job, that would be great news on the back of our takeover etc
BTW, season ticket renewal was yesterday at 5pm, the news re takeover broke AFTER that
Scooter 15 years is maybe stretching it a bit… Celtic have won the league before the split on at least three occasions since it’s conception.
Scooter, Rangers website says 7th of May
Rangers website season book renewal deadline
We don’t do much research but we try and do a wee bit!!
It is a meaningless game but to say its the first for 15 years is harsh – what about the times when Celtic had won the league before the split under O’Neill and Strachan?
It’s a fair point about Lennon – some Celtic fans are saying the opposite – maybe only a real defeat tonight will really convince the board of the level of investment required.
Meaningless it may be but there are going to be plenty of talking points from tonights match, thats the one thing everyone can agree on.
season renewals have been. did you see celtic park on sat ive seen more people on a train .were only going for a colourful party , were playing for nothing celtic players are playing for thier futures and the managers job . if that doesnt motavate them well nothing will . cmon boydy and novo 2 , 0
Not true Jaz – from the link posted above:
“Season ticket renewal forms have been posted and should be returned to Rangers Ticket Centre by Friday 7 May, with the exception of Bondholders who have until Monday 3 May to return their forms, and Club Deck season ticket holders who do not hold a Bond on their seats, who have until Wednesday 12 May to renew.”
Unless Scooter and yourself are Bondholders.
And who says the only bond they like at Ibrox is the Flute bond….
Ed
I am!! indeed i got an email telling me yesterday I had until last night hence the reason for the confusion
Got a funny feeling my bonds not worth very much at the moment!!
Fair enough…we’re all correct!
im never wrong , celtic 0 rangers 2
Oh Jaz….that’s the sort of arrogance that means people take umbrage at what you say.
not the scoreline – many can see that coming…but never being wrong…..lucky you, thats all we can say.
Jaz
Come on now, you need to be more gracious if we get beat tonight, I mean how can you deny them their enjoyment if it happens, we have had so much over the last 3 seasons it would be unfair to deny them a lap of honour or the likes after a meaningless game?? I mean they would all have to cheer Robbie off after spending so much on so little
The other great news is the new Gaurdioula, Neils own comparison not ours, may just get the job, defeat could be a major blessing in disguise this evening surely?
I also meant to mention that as we have lost 1 old firm game in 24 months and celtic have taken 5 points from last 21 avialable in these games, law of averages say we must lose sometime!!
Better in a dead rubber than a meaningful game I suppose
just like i though it would be, men against boys, totally embarassing, have we won any 50/50′s? have Rangers strung 3 passes together yet? absolute rubbish, same old dross from Walter and Allys lads, only 1 team want to win this and only 1 team are good enough to win this. Celtic are fitter, faster, hungrier and better than us, its a disgrace. Title won or not, this performance is unacceptable and typical of Walters Rangers, crap. Dominated from minute 1 to minute 48.
i could not see us scoring then i saw Wilson at centre half with odea, still it gave our team no lift, what a joke, no width, no skill, davis hiding again, thomson is just rubbish, no pace, granda weir is hopeless, mcculloch isnt a football player, lafferty, 3.5million, well there ye go, Walters Rangers.
now yeez are on about season ticket renewals, Mr Ellis saying he will offer Walter a new deal was enough for me to put mine straight in the bin. (tam knows where is sit, 6 rows back in the copeland rear, a guy by the name of montgomery has a full row, im just in front of them) Europe next season will be embarassing and with a fair ref, we cant beat Celtic, were not good enough.
Shocking and embarassing
btw great goal by miller, most unlike him, fortune though is too quick, too strong and too good for our ridiculous defense. keane is over rated as is steve davis.
huge investment needed, huge change needed, selik are not in crisis, Rangers are.
Jaz said “im never wrong , celtic 0 rangers 2″
Jaz you were wrong.
As usual with these games, we’ll leave it until the morning to write up the post match review but plenty to talk about.
2 goalies lost through injury – McGregor and Boruc.
Naylor’s deflected free-kick
Millers great header
Fortune’s great header but bad goalkeeping by Alexander.
Both teams were fairly robust. Rangers were the more “robust” in the first, Celtic in the second.
Was it a late penalty for Rangers? Happened very quickly, hard to say and of course Miller crashed the ball off the post within seconds.
McCulloch late red and can there be any complaints? He had a lunge at McGeady, which although not really catching him was fairly dangerous and then the trailing leg had a swing at McGeady as well.
Loads of arguments / heated moments / questionable singing / gestures from fans to players and vice versa…..lets all be thankful it was a meaningless match!!
Celtic 2 v Rangers 1
A result that probably meant both fans left the ground happy – a very rare occurrence in Celtic v Rangers matches.
ha ha im wrong you need that in live sometimes, mcgeady should be done again no contact what so ever . defo penalty , big costa holding down smith to score . but james change your team your needing to come out the closet youl wear a hooped thong uinder your pyjamas because your as much a rangers fan as davie provan .
Just imagine if these things happened last night:-
1. A Rangers player elbowed a Celtic player in the head – kamara on Naismith
2. A premeditated attack on a celtic player on a Rangers player – Brown on Lafferty
3. A Rangers player chasing about the park wanting to fight / argue with everyone – Odea anyone?
4. Celtic not getting penalty for a handball that stopped a goalbound effort
5. A celtic player being sent off after a dive by a Rangers player – McGeady
How long would we be hearing it ofr, lucky it was “meaningless”
Lee Naylor has now scored as many Old Firm goals as Kris Boyd
and more than Robbie Keane
Come on, Ed, stop being such a wet drip and publish the goddamn comments! It’s just a bit of banter that any non remedial adult’s ego should be able to withstand. Stop standing in the way of freedom of expression!
The Good Doctor!
We appreciate all sorts of humour and banter – we don’t mind pseudonyms…we just don’t really approve of people claiming to be other posters. As you’ll realise, we don’t have many rules…but you know, it’s good for a site to keep something about them.
We’re not ones to stand in the way of gonzo!
If you’re bothered about securing names then make the site another bland registration site. If not, then stop being such an over officious gimp boy, celebrate the site’s freedoms and just let things roll; it’ll save you the extra workload, make the site a far more interesting read and subject those who attach so much self worth to their Internet personnas to the mocking and ridicule thief behaviour deserves.
This has really been annoying you hasn’t it?
As for making it a far more interesting read…well, that’s certainly debatable – theres plenty of sites to go to where it gets bogged down in slanging matches – thats not what we want here.
Yeah, am pure Ragin’ like, big man.The site is already bogged down in slanting matches; they just happen to be of a banal, witless standard.
Take the brakes off and let banter fly wild and untamed. Those best equiped will flourish and those underendowed will be shown for what they are.
I am an inept little bum sniffer who like nothing more than parade around in my dead mother’s frocks.
Right, I’ll open it up to the board.
This is the sort of thing that our freedom of speech friend is wanting to see on here.
Opinions???
I’m all for it. Is he a friend of Dorothy’s?
yeah, me too! He sounds well buff!
From the one, the only, the original scooter…….
Dont let this site develop into somewhere where slanging matches can take place, will devalue what is generally a good place, apart from the obvoius Celtic bias that is!!
The poster has been desperate to get on the site for months now with his quips and comments. We have resisted them so far because there is just no need for the sort of talk he is trying to engage in.
Frankly we’ve gotten bored of the hassle so hopefully opening them up for a day and gaining the opinion of others will perhaps make the poster realise that it’s not the sort of humour that transfers well and just seems a bit childish.
As for Celtic bias – depends who is on writing duties Scooter – perhaps you’ve missed the comments where the site has been slated for being part of the journalistic machine that puts Celtic down on a daily basis.
The sad thing is – some of the comments in the past have been humourous and quirky and if the poster could come on – drop the mimicking other posters (or their mums!!) and the puerile chat, it would be another good addition to the site with regards to contributions.
As for the latest attempted post, yep, you’ve got our number!
Haha
Indeed I must have missed the comments!!
It was a slight joke, I assume this other guy is of the clown variety!!
Elementary, my dear boy.
Elementary, my dear boy.(see what I’ve done here)
Most of the comments were deleted at the pending stage.
What can you do, you open a site up, you’re going to make it open to everyone and there has been plenty of dogs abuse flying about between posters, which is good – but its never enough for some people.
It’s finding the line and what to do when it’s crossed.
We prefer 118 247 – they’re directory heaven
Scooter, if I wasn’t in bed with your sister squeezing on my honky comedy nose while I try work out whether the rumours about her having rather a lot in common with my trouser pockets are true, I might well have taken offense at that comment.
My sister actually used to be my brother
Good luck
Ahhh! Hence the large hands, deep voice and unruly facial hair……..here was me thinking she got them from your Mother
whose jzarfc ya fruit
Can anyone else smell moth balls….?
This guy is as funny as Lenny Henry
…..I love Lenny Henry
