The Black and Blues Brothers of Ibrox
Or is it handbags and gladrags for Rangers?
You could see the Bougherra versus Miller fight coming a mile off. The Algerian stopper’s supposed lack of respect for his team mates was clearly stated by journalist favourite Kenny Miller. Miller making his feelings known so openly was never a smart idea and any small spark was likely to kick things off.
In no time at all, a training ground bust up occurred with team-mates and coaching staff having to separate the two.
No doubt Richard Gough and Mark Hately would say this was a throwback to the 9 in a row era.
The great Rangers side would go out drinking and then fight whatever got in their way. Charlie Miller was probably involved in more bouts than Jo Bugner but it fostered team spirit.
Whether the modern day footballer sees it that way, who knows?
Rangers fans had better hope they do as there has been another blue nose bust up. Davie Weir and Kyle Lafferty were at each others throats at half-time at Pittodrie. Supposedly Lafferty’s attitude and lack of work was the catalyst for the bust up and the lanky striker did not appear in the second half.
Weir has cultivated a reputation as the dignified gent of Scottish football but he is constantly at the heart of fights, niggles and battles. Depending on your view point, this may be a good or bad thing.
Rangers fans will no doubt see it as proof that he cares and as captain, it is his duty to ensure everyone pulls their weight.
Having the passion to fight is a positive but if it happens all the time, it can have a detrimental effect on a club.
Rangers may be nearing the line when it is no longer about desire but more about a lack of discipline.
The financial uncertainty is undoubtedly a factor. Any employee with doubts about their future is going to be nervous and on edge. This manifests itself into the spats and confrontations within the Rangers squad.
So Rangers fans, is this just one of they things or is something wrong with the Rangers squad?
Also, who do you think will be the next two Ibrox sparring partners will be?
