Aberdeen could have had it tougher in the Scottish Cup

An away tie but it is against lower league opposition

When football people talk of the Cup, one of the clichés is “all you can ask for is a home tie”.

Aberdeen got a home tie in the last round but a game against Hearts was a tricky task.

The dandy Dons managed to get a 2-0 victory though and have been rewarded with an away tie to Raith Rovers or Airdrie United.

Both teams are the wrong end of Division One so Aberdeen will definitely start favourites but the recent Cup record of Aberdeen will see them keeping quiet about their chances of progress.

Jimmy Calderwood’s reign at Pittodrie was defined by shock cup exits and Mark McGhee has already lost out to Dundee in the League Cup this season.

Aberdeen should be able to progress to the next round with the minimum of fuss but they have thought that many times in recent years.

The draw for the Fifth Round of the Active Nation Scottish Cup is as follows:
Dunfermline v Morton or Celtic
Hibernian v Edinburgh City or Montrose
Forfar or St Johnstone v Dundee Utd
Livingston or Dundee v Ayr Utd or Brechin or
Raith Rovers or Airdrie Utd v Aberdeen
Kilmarnock or Falkirk v Inverness or Motherwell
St Mirren v Rangers or Hamilton
Ross county or Inverurie Locos v Albion Rovers or East Stirlingshire
